North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina is known for being one of the best college basketball programs in history. They have produced superstars such as Vince Carter, James Worthy, and the one and only, Michael Jordan. But this season has been rough for the Tar Heels as they come into this game with a losing record. They have not finished a season with a losing record since the 2001-2002 campaign. It is also the first losing season under head coach, Roy Williams.
The Tar Heels have been averaging 72.5 points a game while allowing an average of 72.6. Their defense struggles to stop opposing offenses from getting to the rim and those numbers show that. Not all is is bad when it comes to North Carolina this year as their star, Cole Anthony, looks to be a top pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Anthony is averaging 20.2 points a game and scored 24 points last time he went up against Duke.
Duke Blue Devils
When you mention college basketball, the first name that comes to people’s minds is “Duke.” The Duke Blue Devils are one of, if not THE, most prestigious basketball programs in ALL of basketball. Last year, they were the big story all year in college basketball because they had an amazing core of the players in Cam Reddish, Tre Jones, RJ Barrett, and of course, Zion Williamson. Tre Jones was the only one of those four to be back this season as the others are all in the NBA now. Despite losing 3 stars, Duke is still ranked 12th in the NCAA with a 24-6 record.
One would think that Duke would have trouble scoring losing all that talent but they have not as they are averaging 82.3 points a game. Tre Jones has averaged only 16.1 points a game but in the thriller vs. North Carolina last month, Jones scored 28 points in 42 minutes played.
