Blackhawks Vs Rangers – Preview

So we turn over a new leaf and embark on a brand New Year!  The NHL Winter Classic was an awesome experience but the New York Rangers are at it again with an original six showdown at Madison Square Garden against the Chicago Blackhawks!  (NBC Game) The puck drops at 8:05 PM and the Rangers will look to avenge their 1st meeting Vs Chicago back on the 15th of November.  A game in which Artem Anisimov netted 3 in the Hawks 6-3 victory over the BlueShirts in Chicago.

All About The Goalie

The Rangers will look to Henrik Lundqvist, a goalie whose age has certainly caught up to him. Hank still has enough in the tank to perform at a high level, but inconsistency comes along with age, and he has shown this throughout the year.  He’s been great in spots this year, but has also been underwhelming too, almost creating that personality for the team as a whole.  The Rangers started the season with an absolutely horrific October, where they were only able to manage 4 wins in 13 games, but have since added corrective measures and have turned things around nicely over the past few months.  The Rangers have also been the beneficiary with a very home-heavy schedule, only playing 14 games on the road this year thus far, and this is yet another home game.

As for Chicago, the Blackhawks enter MSG with a 18-14-6 record.  Good for 7th place in the Central Division.  The team has hit a bit of a snag with Corey Crawford back on injured reserve for the second time this season.  Jeff Glass made his NHL debut at the age of 32 on the 29th of December in a game against Edmonton.  He earned a victory with a 42 save performance and also turned aside 35 shots in Sunday’s 4-3 OT loss at Calgary.  He will make his third consecutive start tonight behind the likes of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, etc.

Predictions

I still like the Rangers to win this one by a score of 4-3.  When I make my picks www.statementgames.com I will be looking to climb the LEADERBOARD by keying in on Kevin Shattenkirk and his ability to score on the Power Play.  Also looking at total goals for the game at OVER 5.5!
