The Los Angeles Lakers have won their last six games in a row. The last three all went to overtime. The Memphis Grizzlies are coming off a victory, but before that had lost four in a row. It would be fair to call this a matchup between an elite Western Conference team and an mediocre team in the same conference. I will let you guess which is which.

I realize calling the Grizzlies a mediocre team may have sounded harsh, but they do come into this game at 10-10. Isn’t that the very definition of mediocre? To their credit, the Front Office in Memphis has the foundation of a very good team. The Grizzlies have an impressive seven players who are averaging double digits in points, led by Ja Morant at 18.3ppg. Four others are averaging 8ppg. This team brings a balanced attack offensively that isn’t reliant on any one or two single players.

While the aforementioned Ja Morant is the face of this franchise the player to watch against the Lakers may be Jonas Valanciunas. The Grizzlies center is averaging 15.7ppg and 11.1rpg. While he can shoot the three, shooting 33.3% while averaging one attempt per game, he is more a traditional center. He will post up and could give Lakers centers trouble.

Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James continues to amaze. At 36 he shows absolutely no signs of slowing down and is single-handedly keeping the Lakers in games in the absence of Anthony Davis. Davis has been out with tendinitis in his Achilles’ heel. As a basketball player there is nothing more frightening to hearing new of anything wrong with your Achilles’ heel. Because of that Davis and the team has been very careful with him. He did however return to practice after missing two games and could be a game time decision.

Where the Grizzlies offer a balanced attack the Lakers rely more on James and Davis. That is not to say their role players can’t put up numbers, it’s just that with this team, they don’t have to. In Davis’ absence the reigning sixth-man-of-the-year, Montrezl Harrell has stepped up. In those two games without Davis, Harrel averaged 20.5ppg.
