WWE Smackdown 7/24 Show Preview
Smackdown this week is all about the fallout to The Horror Show At Extreme Rules event that happened this past Sunday. Bray Wyatt defeated Smackdown’s Universal Champion, Braun Strowman, in the Wyatt Swamp Fight. The conclusion to that match has many fans asking questions about the future of that storyline. The Horror Show at Extreme Rules also featured the crowning of new Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
Friday’s show will also hopefully be the culmination of the feud between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus. Most fans have not taken a liking to that feud so they are holding out hope that their “Bar Fight” will be the end of their program. It is the only “match” currently being advertised for Smackdown at the time this article is published.
Sheamus vs. Jeff Hardy – Bar Fight
The feud between Jeff Hardy and Sheamus has been going ever since Hardy returned two months ago. While it originally looked good on paper, fans started to reject the storyline once Hardy’s real life past issues with alcohol were used to “enhance” it. Many thought it was in poor taste that the WWE would broadcast his issues to the world and have since fallen out of favor with anything involving this feud.
So now the two men will meet in a Bar Fight that we can only hope will end this storyline and move the two superstars onto other things. Hardy and Sheamus have traded wins over this story but with all the terrible things Sheamus has said and done during all of this, there is no way he walks away the winner of this fight. Hardy needs “redemption” and him losing would bury his character. With this being the only match scheduled so far for Smackdown, expect this to be the main event.
The Horror Show At Extreme Rules Fallout
The Horror Show At Extreme Rules featured some pretty big developments for the blue brand. Bray Wyatt “won” the Wyatt Swamp Fight against Universal Champion, Braun Strowman, after Wyatt’s alter ego, The Fiend, returned to dispatch of Strowman. The ending of this fight will likely lead to a final match between Wyatt and Strowman at Summerslam. But this time it will be for the Universal Championship and Wyatt will show up as The Fiend. Smackdown will probably start to hype that match on this edition of Smackdown.
Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura are the new Smackdown Tag Team Champions after a fantastic Tables Match with the New Day this past Sunday. The new champs have long been underutilized by the WWE so this win was something fans were very happy to see. Cesaro seems to have a new edge to him and hopefully we get to see that develop more this week.
Also at Extreme Rules, Bayley retained her Women’s Championship by beating Nikki Cross. We should find out what’s next for Bayley on this show. It looks like it will be her best friend, Sasha Banks, since that has been foreshadowed for months. The other option looks like Naomi, especially after she was trending all week on Twitter as many believe she is not being used to her max potential. WWE has announced that Naomi will address the outpouring of support on Smackdown Friday night.
