Milwaukee Brewers Vs Chicago Cubs Series Preview
Cubs manager David Ross has been preparing for his first game at the helm for more than eight months now. Come tomorrow, Ross will be in the dugout at Wrigley Field, managing the Cubs and taking on the Milwaukee Brewers. This 2020 Opening Day comes 120 days after the originally scheduled opener. Ross will be handing the ball to starter Kyle Hendricks for game 1, and the significance has not been lost on the rookie manager.
“You think about getting the first win,” Ross said. “Is Kyle Hendricks’ name the one that’s going to be on that? That’s super exciting for me. It doesn’t get much cooler than that — no matter who it is. Thinking about your first win.”
Ross was teammates with many of the players he now manages, a core group that has been trying to rediscover the magic of their World Series run in 2016.
From a Milwaukee Brewers perspective, how is the 60-game season going to effect the team? How will rosters built to survive a six-month grind perform in a season about a third as long? How will empty stadiums impact play on the field?
Manager Craig Counsell and the Brewers are about to find out!
“We all have to remind ourselves that we don’t know what’s going to happen the next day,” Counsell said at the start of Summer Camp, words that still resonate three weeks later. “We’re going to be hit with the unexpected frequently. Instead of getting frustrated by it or complaining about it, we’ve got to move on to the next thing, and understand that’s where we’re at right now and do our best with it. I’m looking forward to leading the guys on that journey.”
