WWE Smackdown 4/17 Show Preview

WWE Smackdown continues this week with another brand new episode from the WWE Performance Center. After the Florida government deemed WWE an “Essential” business earlier this week, the WWE has no plans to shut down production any time soon. So it full steam ahead towards the Money In The Bank pay per view. This week’s Smackdown will feature a bunch of matches that will have Money In The Bank ramifications.

Smackdown Tag Team Title Triple Threat Match

The Smackdown Tag Team Titles will be defended for the second time in two weeks Friday night. And again it’s a triple threat SINGLES match that will decide the champions. If that sounds confusing it’s because it is. Since the Miz was “injured” and couldn’t compete at Wrestlemania, John Morrison defended the titles in a triple threat singles ladder match against Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston. Now it’s the Miz’s turn to defend the titles on his own. He will be up against Jey Uso and Big E. These 3 teams are each entertaining in their own right so keeping them together in a feud makes for great promos and matches. I can see the ending of this match stretching out the feud to the Money In The Bank pay per view where the teams will finally have a proper triple threat tag team match for the titles.

Money In The Bank Qualifying Matches

Smackdown will feature at least two Money in the Bank qualifying matches. One for the men’s ladder match and one for the women’s. Daniel Bryan will face Cesaro in the men’s match. That will make many fans happy since both men produce great matches and together they could have a 5 star match on any night. Expect Sami Zayn to be in Cesaro’s corner, with his usual shenanigans, especially after defeating Bryan at Wrestlemania.

The women’s match will be Dana Brooke versus Naomi. This match is a little head scratching since last week Brooke, along with Carmella, were begging Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for a shot at the Women’s tag team titles. It seemed like she was heading into that feud and now that match hasn’t been mentioned and she’s facing Naomi for a chance to enter the ladder match at MITB. But if they do head in the tag title direction, expect Naomi to win this one. As a matter of fact, expect Naomi to win this match under any circumstances. She’s is the better performer, better character, and always a main stay in the Women’s division.
