New York Rangers Vs Philadelphia Flyers Game Day Preview

New York Rangers
The New York Rangers in the month of February are 4-3-1 with back-to-back wins over the Flyers and Capitals.
On Wednesday night the Rangers are finishing off a three-game road trip between Philadelphia and Washington. Where they beat Philly in a shootout win (3-2) on February 18 and beat Washington 4-1 on February 20.
Their first meeting was the last time they met on February 18, but on February 14 these two teams had their game postponed because of covid protocols on the Flyers side.
The Rangers are having early season struggles on the offensive side, where they were so good last year. “If you’re in those positions, you get paid to score goals, right, and unfortunately when the team has been losing and the lack of offense has been a bit of our issue, you feel that pressure a little bit.” Ryan Strome said. The Rangers know they are losing games because of their offense and not scoring enough goals when they have enough firepower to be scoring more goals than they are.
The Rangers are averaging 2.44 goals per game which is 25th in the NHL compared to 3.16 per game in 2019-20 when they were 12th in the NHL.
On Monday it was announced that Artemi Panarin was taking a leave of absence from the Rangers after story was written in Russia of an altercation between Panarin in 2011.
Philadelphia came out hot in 2021 with an 8-1-3 record after a strong postseason run to the conference semifinals. Compared to the Rangers, Philly has the opposite going on for them in their recent three game skid. The defense is not the strong suit for them this season.
In their latest game they got run off the ice in Lake Tahoe by the Boston Bruins 7-3. Carter Hart got the start vs Boston but gave up six goals on twenty-three shot attempts. When the defense is struggling you need the goalie to step up but, during this stretch Carter Hart the Flyers number one goalie, has not doing that right now.
“I thought the hardest part was probably in the first with all the sun and being blinded by the sun at some places – it was kind of dangerous sometimes.” Said Sean Couturier. He was discussing the game at Lake Tahoe that was supposed to be fun for fans on tv but both games on lake Tahoe were very dangerous because of the sun melting the ice and the glare for the players that didn’t help them see.
For the Flyers to stop this skid, it will be all about their goaltending and defense. Their offense can only do so much. Philly is averaging 3.43 goals per game which is 7th in the NHL. While giving up 3 goals a game which is 19th in NHL.
Carter Hart took a step from his rookie season is 2019 but for the Flyers to take that next step as a team Carter Hart needs to be the Carter Hart from the 2020 Stanley cup playoffs.
