In their first meeting of the season the Los Angeles Clippers (24-11) face off against the Milwaukee Bucks (20-13). The Clippers are currently second in the Western Conference while the Bucks are third in the East. These are two teams that have had high expectations for the last few seasons without reaching the Finals. This season, once again, both teams are considered favorites to reach the big game. So, it’s possible, if things go right for both teams, that we might be seeing a Finals preview tonight!
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks have had an interesting month of February. The interesting part actually started in late January. From January 24th through to February 25th the Bucks won 2 in a row, then lost 2. Then, they won 5 in a row and followed that up with 5 losses in a row. They face the Clippers having won 4 in a row. The Clippers are no doubt hoping they give the Bucks the first of what might be 4 losses in a row to keep their streak alive.
Milwaukee lives and dies by the play of Giannis Antetokounmpo. He has led the Bucks in scoring in all but four of their 33 games played to date. On one hand, that makes the coaches job easy, stop Giannis and we win the game. On the other, well, Giannis is really good and tough to stop. While Antetokounmpo is the headliner, the other players on this team aren’t bad. Jrue Holiday, who has missed 10 games due to health & safety protocol, is expected back.
Los Angeles Clippers
For a team with the second best record in the Association the Clippers have been flying under the radar this season. Last season they found themselves in the unfamiliar spot of being the prohibitive favorite to win it all. Obviously, that didn’t happen. This season analyst don’t seem sold on the team. Despite winning consistently, having the requisite two superstars in Kawi Leonard and Paul George and a good supporting cast around them, people still doubt them.
In a very real way, Clippers fans and quite possibly the players. are OK with that. They are only 3-3 in their last 6 games but one of those wins was over the team with the best record in the Association, the Utah Jazz. The Clippers will no doubt be up for this game; ready to make a statement against one of the best teams in the East.
