WWE Smackdown 9/4 Show Preview
Roman Reigns is the new Universal Champion! At Payback this past Sunday, Reigns defeated the Fiend and Braun Strowman to win back the title he never lost. How he went about about winning the title was controversial as he did not enter the triple threat match until both the Fiend and Strowman had destroyed each other. Reigns seems to be a full heel now and fans are more excited than ever to have Reigns around. This week’s Smackdown will revolve around Reigns’ new attitude and the Universal Championship.
Reigns and his new manager, Paul Heyman, are scheduled to address the WWE Universe on the seismic shift that has happened on the blue brand. In addition to that, there will be a fatal four way match to determine who will face Reigns for the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions later this month. Also, there will be a Payback rematch when the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax, defend their newly won titles against the former champs, Bayley & Sasha Banks.
Universal Championship Number One Contender’s Match
A new number one contender for the Universal Championship will be decided on Smackdown in a fatal four way match. Big E, Matt Riddle, King Corbin, and Sheamus will battle it out to see who will face the new champion, Roman Reigns, next. I LOVE the participants WWE chose to put in this match because it will lead to a new match up and feud we have yet to see.
With Reigns now being a heel, the only two logical choices to win this match are Big E and Matt Riddle. They are two of the most popular stars on Smackdown and would be such a nice and refreshing match-up against Reigns. Either Big E or Riddle winning this match would be absolutely okay with me since both will probably get a shot at the champ in the coming months. With the star caliber in this match, expect a lengthy affair to make all 4 men look strong moving forward.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Rematch
Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax became the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at Payback this past after dominating in their match with Bayley & Sasha Banks. On Smackdown, the former champs get their rematch. This match is all about furthering the dissension between Bayley and Banks. The biggest money match WWE has right now for the Women’s division is Bayley versus Banks. But it is very hard to figure out when WWE will pull the trigger on that match since it’s a match best served for when fans are allowed back in the arena. So I’m very curious to see how long WWE plays this out for.
Baszler & Jax just won the titles so there is no way they are dropping them on Smackdown. While the outcome of the match is predictable, it should still be a great match. The first match at Payback between these two teams was great so we should expect the same here. Also, don’t be surprised if we get more clarity on who will face Bayley for her Smackdown Women’s Champions at Clash of Champions.
