WWE Smackdown 6/26 Show Preview

WWE fans don’t know what to expect on this week’s edition of Smackdown as multiple WWE superstars and personnel have tested positive for COVID-19. It wasn’t til last week that WWE apparently started testing employees for the virus and that decision will now haunt them. There’s much speculation that at least two dozen employees tested positive. If that is the case, it’s hard to promote a show that can change any minute due to the circumstances.

Regardless, WWE has been promoting 3 segments for Smackdown this week. AJ Styles will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Drew Gulak. Bray Wyatt will give us more insight on his plans for the Universal Champion, Braun Strowman. And Sheamus will “toast” Jeff Hardy in another segment on the show. All of this is subject to change due to the current chaotic nature backstage in WWE.

What Does Bray Wyatt Have In Store For Braun Strowman?

Bray Wyatt returned last week and it was in a way not many expected. During his Firefly Fun House segment to end the show, Wyatt was interrupted by the Universal Champion, Braun Strowman. Wyatt’s promo was about Strowman and continuing their feud after their match at the Money In The Bank event last month. Strowman had had enough of Wyatt’s words and that’s when Wyatt shocked Strowman by transforming back into his “cult leader” character he debuted with in 2013. It is also the same character that brought Braun Strowman into the WWE. So with all the history between these two men, I can see both men making multiple appearances throughout this show to further the narrative of this feud.

AJ Styles vs. Drew Gulak For The WWE Intercontinental Championship

AJ Styles has always referred to Smackdown as “The House That AJ Styles Built” due to his impressive run on the show a couple of years back. Now that he is back on the blue brand, he is looking to surpass that run and for the third straight week, he will be in action. He won the Intercontinental Championship two weeks ago by defeating Daniel Bryan in one of the best matches on 2020. Last week, he put on a show with the debuting Matt Riddle but ultimately lost the match. This week, he defends the IC Title against Drew Gulak.

Since joining forces with Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak has been featured more frequently on Smackdown which he certainly deserves. He has always been great in the ring but recently has shown he is pretty good on the mic as well. With this two great in-ring technicians going at it Friday night, I expect AJ Styles to continue his streak of excellent matches. Gulak will probably lose this match but, like many of other men who have lost to Styles, come out of it the better due to Styles’ star power.
