WWE Smackdown 7/17 Show Preview
Smackdown this week is all about the final build to The Horror Show At Extreme Rules Sunday night. While the card for the pay per view is mostly filled, I’m sure a match or two will be added for the blue brand on this episode. The big hook for Smackdown this week is the match for the Intercontinental Championship. AJ Styles will defend the title against the man who beat him just a month ago, Matt Riddle.
Two other segments are being promoted for the July 17th Smackdown. Alexa Bliss will be hosting a surprise guest on A Moment Of Bliss. And Bray Wyatt makes his return just days before he faces Braun Strowman in the Wyatt Swamp Match. So hopefully in that segment we will get more answers on what exactly a Wyatt Swamp Match entails.
AJ Styles vs. Matt Riddle For The Intercontinental Championship
The first match between AJ Styles and Matt Riddle a little under a month ago was phenomenal, no pun intended. It was Riddle’s debut night on the blue brand and he made a huge statement by knocking off arguably it’s best wrestler and biggest star. By having Riddle defeat Styles on his first night on the “main” roster, WWE instantly created another credible act for Smackdown.
So now this week, the two men will square off once again but this time, it is for Styles’ Intercontinental Championship. The scheduling of this match for a Smackdown right before a pay per view event is a little peculiar since this is obviously a big event match. I guess the only logical reasoning for having this match on Smackdown again is to boost the show’s ratings. Just like the first time these two faced off, this match will be incredible and should not be missed. I suspect the match will have a weird finish as to not have either man lose momentum and to extend the feud. A third match between Styles and Riddle would be a big fixture for this year’s Summerslam, which is WWE’s second biggest show of the year.
A Surprise Guest On A Moment Of Bliss
Alexa Bliss will be hosting another edition of A Moment Of Bliss on the July 17th Smackdown. But for some reason, WWE is keeping her guest a mystery. With Bliss’ partner, Nikki Cross, scheduled to face Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules, it would make sense for the guest to be associated in some way to that feud. On the other hand, the mystery guest could be someone trying to set up a different match for pay per view event this Sunday. Regardless, mysteries are good for professional wrestling as sometimes it can be rather predictable storyline wise. So keep your eyes open for this segment if you are tuning into the show.
