WWE Smackdown 7/10 Show Preview
This week’s Smackdown will again show the limited roster the brand is working with. One of the main segments WWE is promoting is the re-airing of the match between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt at May’s Money In The Bank event. While the two men will be squaring off again in less than two weeks at The Horror Show At Extreme Rules and this gives some background on their rivalry, WWE does not usually re-air content unless they are spread thin. As with most of the country, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is really impacting the WWE.
There are two other matches being promoted for Smackdown this week. The New Day will defend their Smackdown Tag Team Championship against Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. Also, the 2020 WWE “MVPs” Bayley & Sasha Banks will face Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross in a non-title match. Both those tag matches should be great, if not fantastic, with the talent involved. In addition to those matches, Smackdown will continue to add to the card of The Horror Show At Extreme Rules.
New Day vs. Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura For Smackdown Tag Team Championship
When all is said and done, the New Day will likely go down as one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history. They are entertaining, great on the mic, and excel in the ring. Plus, they have many Tag Team Championship reigns to back up their claim. This week, they face the challenge of Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. If you were to ask many wrestling wrestling fans who are the two most under-used talents in the business today, Cesaro & Nakamura would probably be 1 and 2 on that list. Both men are amazing in the ring and have great fan followings but for some reason, they are rarely utilized to their full ability.
This match for the Tag Team Titles will likely be the best match on Smackdown this week and perhaps it might be the best match on WWE programming this week. Big E, Kofi Kingston, Cesaro, and Nakamura all possess main event level skills and I hope they put them on full display during this match. With the roster spread thin and TV time available in ways it hasn’t been before, now is the time to get noticed. This is a great spot for Cesaro & Nakamura to prove why they deserve better. So if they are given enough time to tell a story, expect these men to tear the house down. DON’T SLEEP ON THIS MATCH!
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
The two most important superstars in WWE today will be in action AGAIN on Smackdown. Bayley & Sasha Banks will face the women they defeated to become Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross, Friday night. Bayley and Banks have been all the talk of WWE in recent weeks due to their work schedule and the sheer entertainment they bring every night. They have been on at least 2 shows every week during their “takeover” of the WWE Women’s division but no one is complaining. With all the air time they have been given due to light roster, they have taken advantage of it and become even bigger stars.
Bayley will Nikki Cross at the Horror Show at Extreme Rules so this tag match will preview that encounter. This should be a fun match as these teams have great chemistry against one another. But with Bayley riding so high right now and likely retaining her title against Cross at the pay per view, WWE might give Bliss & Cross the win here as a consolation prize. It would also build up Cross more as a credible challenger for Bayley.
