WWE Raw 5/18 Show Preview
The May 18 edition of Raw has a tough show to follow after last week. Last week’s Monday Night Raw featured one of the most shocking moments of the year when Becky Lynch relinquished the Raw Women’s Championship to Asuka due to Lynch being pregnant. With Lynch being out of the women’s division, now is the opportunity for a new women’s star to emerge. Raw this week will feature two big matches as WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre, will face Smackdown superstar, Baron Corbin. The other big match is Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross defending their Women’s Tag Team Titles against the IIconics.
Drew McIntyre vs. Baron Corbin
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has been on a roll ever since winning the Men’s Royal Rumble match in January. That led to him facing and defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania. McIntyre has been beating superstar after superstar on Raw so now a Smackdown superstar would like to take a crack at the Champ.
Baron Corbin will be on Raw Monday night as part of a new program that allows stars from each brand to appear on the opposite show 4 times a year. This new program has been established due to the limited rosters both brands are working with due the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the first one on one match between McIntyre and Corbin on Raw so it should be a good one. Both men have the size and strength to do serious damage to the other so expect a very hard hitting match.
Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. The IIconics for The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles
The IIconics returned to action last week after being off television ever since the social distancing guidelines were put into effect in March. They promptly inserted themselves into the Women’s Tag Team Championship picture by interrupting a segment involving the current champions, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. The IIconics went on to beat Bliss & Cross in a non-title match later in the night and now have a shot at the titles on this week’s Raw.
The IIconics are former Women’s Tag Team Champions so this is a match that can go either way. Although Bliss & Cross just won the titles at Wrestlemania, WWE could change the titles on Raw due to low viewership of the show and needing a shock to boost ratings. This feud is just in its beginning stages so regardless of the outcome, this will not be the end of these two teams squaring off in the ring.
