Monday Night Raw Wrestling Predictions

WWE Raw 6/1 Show Preview

Last week on Raw, WWE finally put a crowd back in the arena. After each getting tested for the coronavirus, wrestlers from the WWE Performance Center and NXT safely filled the stands to watch Raw. While its not the crowd many want, it did add to a product that was clearly missing something without its fans. Hopefully this is the first step to safely getting wrestling fans back in the arenas.

In addition to that big news, Nia Jax defeated NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte and Natalya to become to the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship. The Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka, will face Charlotte on this week’s episode. Also this week, Seth Rollins will face Aleister Black before hosting Rey Mysterio’s retirement ceremony.

Asuka vs. Charlotte

Asuka and Charlotte have a lot of history with each other. Asuka came up to the main roster in 2017 followed with a ton of hype due to her unprecedented undefeated streak. She proceeded to win the first Women’s Royal Rumble and went on to challenge Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Charlotte ended Asuka’s win streak in a fantastic match by having her tap-out to the Figure 8. Then last year, right before Wrestlemania, Charlotte defeated then-champion Asuka to win the same title and went on to headline Wrestlemania with Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch.

So to say Asuka wants a big win against Charlotte is an understatement. Charlotte has become a workhorse the last few weeks, wrestling on Raw, NXT and even Smackdown. She has proven time and time again she IS the best woman to ever compete in WWE. A win over the most dominant female in ALL of WWE would give Asuka’s new reign as champ instant credibility. This is a match-up WWE normally saves for a pay per view so fans are in for a treat.

Seth Rollins vs. Aleister Black

Speaking of pay per view quality match-ups, Seth Rollins versus Aleister Black is another match that should have been saved for a big show. On paper, these two match up perfectly with similar styles and backgrounds. Rollins and his loyal followers have been a thorn in Black’s side on Raw for months now and it’s time for Black to get his shot at Rollins.

But with this match comes a dilemma. Both men cannot afford losses right now. Rollins lost to WWE Champion Drew McIntyre last month in a big match and with him gathering new followers, another big loss would not look good in his recruiting pitch. Then you have Aleister Black who is being built as one of the next big WWE stars. He has been handled carefully since being called up from NXT last year. In NXT, he was a huge star but huge stars in NXT don’t always translate well on the main roster. But it’s been different with Black, he’s had very few losses in one one one matches and looks to be one big win away from superstardom.

I think WWE has backed themselves into a corner with this match. The only way to get out of it is with some type of interference so neither man takes a clean loss. Rollins has his followers that can interfere while Black potentially has a very angry Rey Mysterio waiting in the wings to get his hands on Rollins. Rollins almost blinded Mysterio a few weeks ago hence why he is holding a retirement ceremony for Mysterio. In the end, I hope WWE knows what they are doing here and they don’t hurt either of these wrestlers’ momentum.
