WWE Backlash Match Card Preview
WWE Backlash is here and has arrived with very little fanfare. Whether it be the crowd-less shows or somewhat stale storylines, Backlash feels like just another night of wrestling. You would think it would be easy for WWE to gain viewers during these times with most people staying indoors but they are dropping in the ratings every week due to the company’s mediocrity. Besides maybe one or two matches on the card, there’s not much to care about on this show.
It’s been a very long time since WWE built a pay per view around one match but that’s what they have done with Backlash. “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” will supposedly take place when Edge faces Randy Orton. Also on this show, the WWE, Universal, Raw Women’s, United States, and Women Tag Titles will all be defended.
Edge vs. Randy Orton
The match between Edge and Randy Orton at WrestleMania gets differing opinions depending on who you ask. While I thought it was a pretty good match, some people hated it due to its long runtime. Now, in a very questionable decision, they will go at it again in what is being billed as “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.”
While Edge and Orton are two of the greatest stars ever in WWE, even I know not to bill ANY match the greatest ever. That’s an impossible task to live up to, especially with all the amazing matches the wrestling industry has produced. As a matter of fact, I think it would be hard for them to top the match Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles just had on Smackdown for the Intercontinental Championship.
Edge is a wrestler just coming out of retirement and Orton has slowly moved into a part time role in WWE. These men are not in their peaks so delivering that match is highly unlikely. By billing this match at Backlash the way they have, WWE has put these men in a no win situation. If the match is anything but perfect, it will be scrutinized. And for that, I feel bad for Orton and Edge. I know we will be entertained but greatest match ever? I don’t think so.
