Wednesday Night War Preview

While WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown put weekly episodic live wrestling on the map years ago, it is AEW and NXT keeping wrestling relevant these days. AEW and NXT are the two most exciting wrestling brands in the world today with the only exception being New Japan Pro Wrestling. These two shows have the most exciting talent, matches, and storylines in professional wresting. And what makes both shows so great is that they are in DIRECT competition with each other each and every week. Dynamite, AEW’s weekly show, and NXT both air at 8 PM on Wednesdays every week. Since starting the rivalry back in October of 2019, AEW has mainly beat NXT in the ratings war. But recently, NXT has come fighting back and beat AEW in the ratings the last two weeks.

This Wednesday Night War takes old school wrestling fans back to the days of the Monday Night War between WWF Raw and WCW Nitro. That was the best time to be a wrestling fan when stars like Steve Austin, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, and more were all household names. AEW and NXT both believe the are building the stars of the future of professional wrestling and because of this, it is a great time to be a wrestling fan again.

This week, both AEW and NXT have Night Two of their pay-per-view quality events. AEW’s Fyter Fest and NXT’s Great American Bash are both stacked show with each hoping to dominate the other show in quality and in the ratings. NXT prevailed last week due to a stellar main event between Io Shirai and Sasha Banks. But who will step up this week to give their company the win in this Wednesday Night War?

AEW Fyter Fest: Night Two

Unfortunately for AEW, Fyter Fest: Night Two lost it’s biggest match last week due to AEW Champion, Jon Moxley, having to quarantine because he was exposed to COVID-19. Moxley was to defend his championship against Brian Cage in a bout that was highly anticipated. To make up for that, AEW CEO Tony Khan has announced that Brian Cage’s manager, Taz, will be making a HUGE announcement that will send shockwaves through professional wrestling. So with the main championship match off the card, Fyter Fest: Night Two has two matches that could potentially main event. Those matches are Chris Jericho versus Orange Cassidy and the 8 man tag match featuring 3 of the best 4 tag teams in AEW.

Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy

Chris Jericho versus Orange Cassidy is a feud many have gotten behind because of both men’s over the top characters. This is THE match that will MAKE Orange Cassidy a bonafide star in professional wrestling. Being in a one on one match with a legend like Jericho on a high profiled show will do big things for Cassidy’s career. This match could also feature an appearance by Mike Tyson since Jericho has been lobbying for a match against him. Jericho and Tyson were involved in a scuffle on AEW television weeks ago.

The Young Bucks & FTR vs. The Lucha Bros. & The Butcher & The Blade

The other big match on this show involves the Young Bucks teaming with FTR to face the Lucha Bros. & The Butcher & The Blade. The Young Bucks, FTR, and the Lucha Bros. are probably the 3 best tag teams on the planet. So for a match to feature all of them, how could it not be considered big time? What makes the match even more intriguing is the fact that the Young Bucks and FTR are teaming up. For years, fans have wanted these two teams to face EACH OTHER in a traditional tag team match. But it couldn’t happen as both teams were in two different companies. But now that FTR is in AEW, it looks like all roads are leading towards an Young Bucks/FTR dream match. And I believe the outcome of this match will get us closer to that showdown.

More on Fyter Fest: Night Two!

The rest of Fyter Fest stacks up pretty nicely against the Great American Bash. The AEW Tag Team Champions, Kenny Omega & Hangman Page, will defend their titles for the second straight week. This time they face the red-hot Private Party. “The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer goes up against Joey Janela in a grudge match. Nyla Rose will also be in action against a surprise opponent. And SCU will face Brodie Lee, Stu Grayson, and Colt Cabana in a 6 man tag match.

NXT Great American Bash: Night Two

NXT is coming in with some momentum after winning last week’s battle of the Wednesday Night War. And fortunately for them, they also come in with not only the biggest match of both weeks, but the biggest match in NXT history. Add that to a card with 4 other exciting matches and I think NXT takes the ratings war this week as well.

NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. North American Champion Keith Lee – Winner Take All

NXT Champion, Adam Cole, will face North American Champion, Keith Lee, in a winner take all match. Whoever wins this match will be the NXT Champion AND North American Champion. This is easily the biggest match in NXT history and it involves the two hottest stars in NXT over the past year. Adam Cole and Keith Lee will undoubtedly put on one of the best matches of 2020 at the Great American Bash Wednesday night. Every wrestling fan should tune in to NXT just for this match.

What Else Can Steal The Show at Great American Bash: Night Two?

The rest of the Great American Bash: Night Two card looks great as well with 3 of the 4 remaining matches looking like they can steal the show. Candice LeRae will face her main rival, Mia Yim, in a Street Fight. The NXT Women’s division could be considered the best division in all of the professional wrestling so these two women will want to set the bar high for everyone else. Johnny Gargano wrestles Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in a match featuring two of NXT’s most exciting in-ring competitors. El Legado Del Fantasma looks to continue their dominance in NXT when take on Drake Maverick & Breezango. Lastly, Mercedes Martinez makes her return to action against an unspecified opponent.
