Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz looks to continue his Cinderella story against Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Adesanya is moving up 20 pounds in a bid to become a multi division champion. It feels like Adesanya has been entrenched as the middleweight champion and one of the best fighters in the world for a while now, but it is worth remembering that his UFC debut came just a shade over three years ago. Adesanya came over from kickboxing as an obvious talent with star potential, but the thought was that there would be some growing pains.

Jan Blachowicz continues to improve as a striker, power kicker and liner punch rusher. The question becomes, will this style be enough against a kickboxer as skilled as Adesanya. Israel Adesanya punishes under-polished aggression as decisively as any MMA fighter.

If Blachowicz wants to score another improbable upset and retain his title, look for him to mix things up. He mentioned earlier this week that he’s willing to take Adesanya down if he opportunity arises.

But Blachowicz isn’t the only one who’s been improving. In all, Adesanya has only been stopped once in over 100 combined bouts. He was stopped by the great kickboxer Alex Pereira but that now seems to be ancient history.
