On Sunday Night Baseball, the Cardinals will face the Padres for the third game of a three-game series. On Friday night, the two teams played for the first time this season. San Diego won both games by scores of 5-4 and 13-3. This will be an exciting battle of southpaws on the mound in a primetime game between the St Louis Cardinals VS. Padres on national television. The Cardinals will not face the Padres again until September 17.

The Padres currently have four players in the MLB’s COVID-19 protocols. However, despite being down four players, they will try to sweep the Cardinals. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said after Saturday’s 13-3 rout, “These last two nights have been overall team wins. I love the way we are competing– and it’s a lot of guys contributing.”

The Cardinals’ pitching has been far from perfect in the last two games, walking 12 Padres on Friday night and giving up 17 hits on Saturday. Kwang -Hyun Kim will attempt to clean up the mess in the previous two games. Kim is 32 and is in his second season in the MLB. Previously, he played in the Korean Baseball Organization. This year, Kim is 1-0. In five games started, he has pitched 23.0 innings with an ERA of 2.74 and a WHIP of 1.261. He also has a SO/9 rate of 9.4, which is 3.9 higher than 2020.

The 21-year-old Ryan Weathers will take the mound for San Diego. He is 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA and WHIP of 0.716. Although this will be his ninth appearance this season, this is only his fourth start. In 2020 he played in one game which was in the NLDS.
