Phoenix Suns Vs Los Angeles Lakers Game Day Preview

Chris Paul (Phoenix Suns)

In this odd NBA season tonight makes the first meeting between teams in the same Division. This is going to be a fun game. Both teams come to this game with modest two game winning streaks. On paper, it may not look like much, but when you understand the history of these two franchises it sheds a little light on why I think it will be a fun game. The Suns, like several franchises in the Western Conference, have historically not been on par with the Lakers. This season, as good as the Lakers have been, the Suns are just one game behind them. With a win tonight Phoenix would be in a virtual tie with the Lakers. It’s just a regular season match-up, but expect to see playoff intensity tonight.

Phoenix Suns

The Suns have been mediocre for a while. There are worse things than being mediocre, but there are also better things to be. This far this season, the Suns are 22-11 and currently in the fourth position in the Western Conference standings. They owe the sudden move to “better than mediocre” to All-Star Chris Paul. The Point-God is averaging 16.4 points per game with 9 assists. More importantly, he has brought a swagger to the team that they simply did not have before.

With CP3 leading the charge players like Devin Booker, another All-Star, and Deandre Ayton have been able to put together really good season. Booker is averaging 25.5 points per game to lead this team and Ayton is pulling down 11.6 rebounds per game which also leads the Suns. In fact, the Suns are more than just those players; they have 7 players averaging double digits in points. I’m including Jae Crowder in that list since he comes in at 9.8 points per game.

The Suns are for real but will face a real test against the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers
NBA Fantasy Basketball

The Lakers hit a rough patch after receiving news that Anthony Davis would be out several weeks with an Achilles issue. After losing a season high four games in a row however they got Dennis Schroder back, who was out due to Health and Safety measures, and have won two in a row. It’s no secret that Davis is half of the most potent duo in the Association with LeBron James. He averages 22.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds. That productivity is not easy to replace.

The Lakers have had success by giving Montrezl Harrell more time, to which he has responded. Last seasons Sixth Man of the Year is averaging 19 points per game over his last four games. Kyle Kuzma has also done his part, coming off a 23 point game. The newest Lakers player, Damian Jones, played his first game recently and opened some eyes. He ended with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and an emphatic alley-oop dunk in 8 minutes of action. Will all that combined replace AD’s production, not really, but it’s enough to keep the Lakers atop the Pacific division, for now.
