New York Mets Vs Washington Nationals Series Preview

Fantasy Baseball

The long anticipated 2020 MLB season continues to march on. Tonight, the defending champion Washington Nationals will face off against the New York Mets in an NL East showdown. Both teams have struggled out of the gate and have losing records through the 2020 season. The 2020 season has seen unprecedented challenges that have affected both teams. The Mets have lost one of their star sluggers, Yoenis Cespedes, as he abruptly opted out of the 2020 season after failing to show up to their contest against the Braves. As far as the Nationals’ troubles go, they have not played a game since July 30th. This was because their series with the Marlins was canceled due to the Marlins’ COVID-19 outbreak.

The Nationals could come out cold as they have not played a game in almost a week. In addition, they will be going up against one of the Mets’ best pitchers, Steven Matz. Matz struck out 10 in his last outing and has only allowed 4 runs in 2 outings so far this season. On the plus side for Washington, their star slugger, Juan Soto, has been cleared by MLB to re-join the team. It is likely that Soto will appear in the lineup this series and he will provide a much needed boost to a struggling Nationals squad.

This is a good opportunity for the defending champs to get back on track against a struggling Mets squad. The Mets will see two of Washington’s top pitchers in this series in Matt Corbin and Max Scherzer. Washington will face a tough lefty in Steven Matz in today’s game and will likely see a “cold” Rick Porcello in game 2. The Nationals have an upper hand in the series as they will avoid having to face Mets’ ace, Jacob deGrom. But, a big performance from the Mets could give them momentum and provide them with a spark to turn their season around. For more great baseball coverage, check out The Scoop Sports
