New York Giants Vs Chicago Bears Game Day Preview
The NY Giants will look to avenge a November 2019 19-14 loss to Da Bears this Sunday as they travel to Chicago again. This will be the teams first road game under new coach Joe Judge. After losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football 26-16 Judge and team are looking to avoid yet another 0-2 season start.
The Chicago Bears are aiming to say unbeaten in their Home opener at Soldier Field. After rallying in the fourth quarter of NFL Week 1 to defeat the Detroit Lions the team is carrying some great MOJO. Chicago trailed 23-6 at the end of the third quarter. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky led the team back with 21 unanswered points in the final 13:43 to secure the win.
New York Giants
Look for the NYG to improve upon its run game. They were handcuffed by the Steelers in Week 1 as star RB Saquon Barkley finished the game with 6 yards on 15 carries. He did provide a spark with 6 catches for 60 yards but 6 rushing yards is fairly pathetic. We understand that it takes time to build chemistry on the offensive line. Big Blue has new faces across the offensive front with tackles Andrew Thomas and Cam Fleming along with center Nick Gates.
Coach Judge commented on how he needed more from his offensive line in order to create running lanes. “That’s the biggest thing,” Judge said. “That’s the thing about those bigs, it does not matter how one guy plays. It’s all five have to play in sync, all the time.” For this weeks matchup expect Chicago’s stout front to be strong against the run but do not expect them to hold Barkley to 6 yards either.
Bears coach Matt Nagy is looking for improvement from his squad. He emphasized the need for stronger starts to the game because relying upon a wild comeback is a receipt for disaster. “The biggest thing that we have to get to is the consistency throughout the game,” Nagy said. “We’ve got to be more consistent and we need to help the offense in general do that, and when you asked the question about Mitchell, he needs to do that as well.”
Like the Giants, the Chicago Bears – who ranked 27th in the NFL in rushing during 2019, are hoping a reliable running game creates a more dependable Trubisky. The Bears rushed for 149 yards on 28 attempts against the Lions, with David Montgomery leading the way with 64 yards. Even with a questionable New York secondary look for them to continue to establish the run.
