Milwaukee Brewers 2020 MLB Roster Projections

Fantasy Baseball

This is going to be an interesting year for the Milwaukee Brewers and the rest of Major League Baseball. Rosters were already going to look different this year with the switch from a 25-man to 26-man roster, but now that teams can begin the season with 30, teams can evaluate even more players. And with the updated 30 man roster rules, their are no restrictions on the number of pitchers you can carry.

Let’s take a deeper look at who the Milwaukee Brewers will carry.

Catchers – Their might be a third catcher to make the team but the Brew Crew will be fine starting the year with Omar Narvaez & Manny Pina.

Infielders – The recent shutdown gave guys like Luis Urias an opportunity to get healthy. As a result, the battle for an opening day infield roster position just got a little more competitive. Including Urias, the other players to be considered for a roster spot are Orlando Arcia, Jedd Gyorko, Keston Hiura, Brock Holt, Logan Morrison, Justin Smoak, & Eric Sogard. With the NL DH now in play, Logan Morrison has a better shot of making the squad.

Outfielders – Go ahead and simply key in on 5 guys: Ryan Braun, Lorenzo Cain, Ben Gamel, Avisail Garcia, and Christian Yelich. 5 players may not seem like much but the versatility in the infield should not be overlooked.

Starting Pitching – Lock these 5 guys in: Brett Anderson, Adrian Houser, Eric Lauer, Josh Lindblom, and Brandon Woodruff

Relief Pitching – Minor league options come into play when looking at this part of the roster. We are taking an educated guess that the team will carry 10 guys out in the bullpen. Ray Black, Corbin Burnes, Alex Claudio, Justin Grimm, Josh Hader, Corey Knebel, Freddy Peralta, David Phelps, Brent Suter, and Devin Williams are the favorites.

Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Baseball Outlook

The Milwaukee Brewers have a few prospects that are ready to turn the Fantasy Baseball corner. We wanted to focus in on Luis Urias (SS) & Freddy Peralta (P).

Luis Urias – In late January, he had surgery on his left wrist to repair a broken hamate bone. However, when healthy he is the team’s starting SS. His bat needs to take a step forward but he has a good 6 year minor league track record of being able to hit with at .308 average. For now, a .280 hitter with a chance at a 60/15/60/10 skill set. Lots of upside!

Freddy Peralta – We have him starting in the bullpen to start the season but he can be a starting pitcher. Yes, Freddy Peralta did regress in 2019.  (7-3 with a 5.29 ERA and 115 Ks over 85 innings). He set a career-high in his strikeout (12.2) while struggling with home runs (1.6 per nine) and walks (3.9 per nine). Peralta struggled against right-handed batters (.280 with 12 HRs over 211 at-bats). He dominated out the bullpen in September (1.86 ERA and 20 Ks over 9.2 innings). Pick him up and stash him on your Fantasy Baseball rosters!
