Los Angeles Lakers Vs San Antonio Spurs Game Day Preview

From the AT&T Center on New Years Day, the Spurs will face the Lakers for the second time in three days. A few things took place in the 1st meeting this past Wednesday. The two teams faced one another for the 1st time and as a result of Gregg Popovich being ejected we saw a little history. Spurs assistant Becky Hammon filled in for Coach Popovich. In doing so she became the first woman to act as head coach during an NBA regular-season game.

Lebron James turned 36 this past Wednesday and on the court his team was full of support. The Lakers, who led by as many as 18, took a 63-53 lead at halftime and stayed in control the duration of the game. Despite committing 17 turnovers to 10 for the Spurs, the Lakers relayed on their shooting to finish, converting 56.1 percent from the floor. From three point land – the Lakers hit 14 of 26 3-pointers (53.8 percent).

Despite the win, Dennis Schroder said the Lakers remain a work in progress with their new additions.

“It’s game by game. We got to get better as a team,” said Schroder, who was dealt to the Lakers by the Oklahoma City Thunder before the season.

When San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon became the first woman to act as head coach of an NBA team during the regular season she had little time to cherish the milestone.

“It’s my job to go in there and be focused for those guys and make sure that I’m helping them do the things that will help us win,” Hammon said. “I really have not had time to reflect. I haven’t looked at my phone so I have no idea what is going on outside of AT&T Center tonight.”

Dejounte Murray also achieved a personal milestone, scoring a game-high and career-high 29 points on a remarkably efficient 12-of-19 performance from the field. Unfortunately, it was not enough to spoil King James’s B-Day Party.
