The NBA is back! The Golden State Warriors battle the Brooklyn Nets in an event that tips off the 2020-21 campaign. Kevin Durant is back in action for the 1st time with his new team and how ironic is it that his Nets debut comes against his old squad. Golden State aims to get back into contention in a loaded Western Conference after an injury riddled 2019-20 campaign. However they will compete this year with yet another less than full deck. Star Klay Thompson will miss the entire season due to an Achilles injury.
Each of these teams expect to get off to fast starts with a WIN tomorrow night. Here is what you need to know leading up to tip-off.
Golden State Warriors
It is a brand new look for DUB Nation. Rookie big man James Wiseman will be a big part of the team. James was an overly hyped prospect leading into the 2020 NBA Draft, and makes an anticipated debut against the Nets. No Thompson and Green is out to start the season. With a shortened season, not much time to sit around and wait for the kid to become accommodated with the NBA. Of course all will welcome back the return of Steph Curry. But in the case of Wiseman, the rookie needs to play and contribute immediately.
Brooklyn Nets
The wait is OVER! The debut of Durant and Kyrie Irving as a duo is finally HERE. Both players signed with Brooklyn as free agents in 2019 but dealt with injury issues throughout last season. Durant missed the entire campaign, while Irving was limited to just 20 games.
On paper, the combination of Durant and Irving projects to be one of the most dynamic duos in the entire league. However, chemistry could be a concern, given Irving’s history. Plus, like we have seen time and again, throwing star players together doesn’t necessarily guarantee success.
