Boston Bruins Vs New York Rangers Game Day Preview
The New York Rangers inability to win key face-offs was a factor in the overtime loss to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night. They will have an opportunity for redemption tonight as the battle the Bruins again!

With the Bruins in possession of the puck and time dwindling down in the final minutes of the Wednesday night game Vs NYR, goalie Tuukka Rask began skating toward the Boston bench. That’s common when a team is down and wants to put an extra skater on the ice to improve the chances of a tying goal.
The only problem? The score was already tied, 2-2.
Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy, his assistants, and at least six teammates on the bench frantically waved at Rask to get back between the pipes.
What was Rask thinking?
“I just had to tell something to Jaro [Halak] real quick,” Rask deadpanned. “No, I honestly thought we were down, 2-1,” he said, slightly sheepish. “That’s it. I was waiting for Butchy to wave me over. I was like, ‘Why the heck is he not …’ There was like a minute and a half left. I decided to come. Chucky [McAvoy] told me, ‘Buddy, it’s 2-2.’ ”
Rask is back in net tonight for the Bruins after what was otherwise a solid performance.
New York Rangers
Artemi Panarin suffered a lower body injury on Wednesday and we do not know the full extent of the damage. Worst case scenario for the NY Rangers is that Panarin is out for an extended period of time.
How important is he to the team’s offense? The bottom six forwards have combined for six goals and 16 points. Panarin alone has five goals and 15 points. That’s a big chunk of the team’s offense.
The Rangers are treading water, they continue to hover around a .500 record. They are doing this as a result of Mika Zibanejad coming off the second worst start of his career.
If Zibanejad can start scoring like he did last season, it will go a long way towards filling any gap left by a Panarin injury. The only problem is that means the team will continue to stumble along since they need both Panarin and Zibanejad firing on all cylinders to be successful.
Keep an eye on Alexis Lafrenière! The Panarin injury will give the rookie extended ice time and increased opportunity.
