AEW Dynamite 8/12 Show Preview
When FTR, one of the greatest tag teams in the world today, signed their AEW contracts a few weeks ago, they made sure a clause in the contract was for AEW to hold a Tag Team Appreciation Night. This week’s edition of Dynamite is will be that night. Unfortunately, FTR will not be able to compete due to an injury to Dax Harwood, other major tag teams will be on display. But funny enough, on a night called Tag Team Appreciation Night, the biggest matches are singles matches.
The heavily hyped rematch between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy headlines this episode of Dynamite. Another huge singles match is Cody defending his TNT Championship against a rejuvenated Scorpio Sky. As for the tag teams, the AEW Tag Team Champions, Kenny Omega & Adam “Hangman” Page, will put the titles on the line against Jurassic Express. The other tag team match featured on Tag Team Appreciation Night will be the Young Bucks versus Dark Order members, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson. Tag team legends Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and the Rock & Roll Express will all be making appearances on this show as well.
Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy II
If you would have told any wrestling fan that a feud between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy would be one of the best angles going in professional wrestling today, they would probably tell you you’re nuts. Even Chris Jericho in interviews said he didn’t take Cassidy seriously at first. But Orange Cassidy has taken this opportunity being paired with Jericho and run with it. Cassidy is now one of the top attractions in AEW. His feud with Jericho has been entertaining every single week and last week’s debate between the two men upped Cassidy’s stock even more with his brilliant performance.
Jericho won the first match against Cassidy at Fyter Fest last month although Cassidy put up a hell of a fight. That match was pretty lengthy and I expect this one to be the same. If AEW is serious about building new stars with no prior ties to rival WWE, Orange Cassidy NEEDS to go over here. Jericho has rarely lost in singles action since joining AEW so a loss to Cassidy wouldn’t hurt him but would be HUGE for Cassidy’s career.
Cody vs. Scorpio Sky – TNT Championship Match
Scorpio Sky is one of the most gifted wrestlers in All Elite Wrestling. He has the look and in-ring ability to be a big star for the company but something he has lacked at is mic work. But that all changed last week on AEW Dark, AEW’s YouTube show. Sky cut a great promo telling the world that he will not be overlooked anymore and he is ready to be a big player. Wrestling fans should really check this out since it was one of the best promos anyone has cut in AEW lately. So after making his declaration that he wants more, Scorpio Sky gets his shot against Cody for the TNT Championship this week.
This match is one of the few times Cody is facing someone that could take the title from him. Usually Cody is put in TNT title defenses against people he can have good matches with but the result is usually very predictable since not many can measure up to Cody. Not in this scenario though. This is another instance where AEW can build a new star not from WWE. I would love to see Sky be the one to beat Cody for the TNT Championship. He is ready to be pushed to the stars and to be honest, Cody doesn’t really need a title to be relevant in AEW. He is already one of their biggest stars. But Scorpio Sky holding the TNT title would do wonders for his career. I hope AEW sees that as well.
