WWE The Horror Show At Extreme Rules Show Preview
WWE Extreme Rules is a pay per view the company holds annually with most of the matches having different stipulations than a normal pay per view. This year’s event, The Horror Show At Extreme Rules, gets its moniker from two matches that could have “horrific” results. The Horror Show at Extreme Rules was originally supposed to take place in San Jose, California but like a majority of WWE events since March, it will take place at the WWE Performance Center due the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 12th edition of the event will feature 7 matches, 4 of them having unique stipulations. The main event will feature Braun Strowman returning to the Wyatt Swamp for a showdown with his former leader, Bray Wyatt. WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre will defend his title against Dolph Ziggler in a match that Ziggler will announce the stipulations for the night of the show. The WWE half year MVPs, Bayley and Sasha Banks, will both be in title matches as Bayley will be defending her Smackdown Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross and Banks will go up against Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka, for her belt.
The rest of The Horror Show At Extreme Rules card is rounded out by 3 other matches. Rey Mysterio looks for revenge when he faces Seth Rollins in an “Eye for an Eye” match. The New Day will try to retain their Smackdown Tag Team Championship in a Tables match against the formidable duo of Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. Lastly, United States Champion, Apollo Crews, will try to overcome the odds when he faces MVP, who will have the powerful Lashley in his corner.
Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt – Wyatt Swamp Fight
The next chapter in the story of Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt will be written Sunday night when the two go to battle where their relationship started, The Wyatt Swamp. After defeating his former mentor, Wyatt, back at the Money In The Bank event, Braun Strowman has been waiting for him to make his inevitable return. But he did not suspect that Wyatt would return as his cult-like leader character. This is the character that brought Braun Strowman onto the WWE main roster and showcased the monster he could be. It is this character that wants to remind Strowman of who he really is.
The Wyatt Swamp Fight will be one of the cinematic matches WWE has been featuring on their big shows ever since their success at Wrestlemania. It is also the reason Extreme Rules got its “Horror Show” moniker due to Wyatt’s creepy character being involved. While this match will be very interesting due to its unique nature, it will not be the final chapter in this story. Regardless of who wins, the final showdown between these two HAS to be Strowman defending his Universal Championship against The Fiend, Wyatt’s most popular and powerful alter-ego.
So while this match will be fun and most likely brutal, it is will lead to one more encounter. That match will likely be at the biggest show of the summer, Summerslam. Braun Strowman versus the Fiend for the Universal Championship is the final destination. The Wyatt Swamp Fight will provide us with the pathway to that match as well as another crazy chapter in the rivalry between these two former allies.
Asuka vs. Sasha Banks – WWE Raw Women’s Championship Match
While Strowman versus Wyatt is the show’s main event, the match between Asuka and Sasha Banks will be the match of the night. Both women have been on their “A” game since the COVID-19 pandemic started. With the WWE roster being smaller than usual for safety reasons, Asuka and Banks have been featured more weekly. They have taken advantage of their extra screen time and have showed the wrestling world why the WWE Women’s division is the most important and maybe most popular division in wrestling.
What’s so great about this match is that it can really go either way. Both women would be great as Raw Women’s Champion going into Summerslam. Also, there are awesome stories waiting for each after this match. Hopefully WWE gives these women the time they deserve for a match this big since they definitely have earned it. If I had to choose a winner, I would slightly lean more towards Sasha Banks. A story of Banks against Bayley with both Women’s Championships on the line is too good to pass up. Especially when we are approaching the 5 year anniversary of the epic Takeover match between the two that helped kick-start the “Women’s Revolution.”
