WWE Smackdown 8/28 Show Preview
This week’s Smackdown is just as unique as Raw was since it’s the first and last show before a pay per view. Summerslam was just this past Sunday and now WWE’s next event, Payback, takes place this Sunday. I have no idea why WWE scheduled big events in consecutive weeks as it is already hard for them to build to one show with 4 weeks notice.
Bray Wyatt/The Fiend is the new Universal Champion but the big story coming out of Summerslam was the return of Roman Reigns. Reigns appeared after Wyatt’s match with Braun Strowman and beat up both men. Now, Reigns will be involved in a triple threat match with Wyatt and Strowman for the Universal Championship at Payback. That contract signing will take place on this show, obviously.
Also on Smackdown, Big E will appear on “MizTV” after he and the Miz has a fiery battle of words on Talking Smack this past week. More matches will be made for Payback on this show and I’m curious to see what they put together in one night. Lastly, will Retribution wreak havoc again after their beating of Rey and Dominik Mysterio on Raw?
Universal Championship Contract Signing
The Universal Championship will be defended in a triple threat match at Payback on Sunday. The new champion, Bray Wyatt/The Fiend, not only has to deal with Braun Strowman, but now has to also face the returning Roman Reigns. Reigns attacked Wyatt after his win on Sunday and showed no fear of the menacing superstar. A contract signing for this match will take place on Smackdown and will surely lead to blows between the men. Reigns has a new edge to him so fans are eager to see what he has to say in his first night back on Smackdown. And how will Wyatt and Strowman retaliate after Reigns’ post-match attack at Summerslam?
What Will Retribution Do Next?
What is Retribution’s purpose and who leads them? That is what everyone wants to know and we all thought we would get those answers at Summerslam. But, for some odd reason, Retribution DID NOT interrupt WWE’s second biggest show of the summer. Storyline-wise, that was a dumb move since that would be the best time to attack. They did, however, show up at the end of Raw Monday night and attack the Mysterio family.
Retribution has been a focal point of Smackdown recently so expect more attacks from them on this episode. Maybe it’ll lead to a match between the stars of Smackdown and Retribution at Payback. I mean the show is called Payback so it would be logical. Who knows but WWE needs to start providing some answers for Retribution before they become stale.
