WWE Raw 5/25 Show Preview
Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, WWE Raw has struggled to grasp views. While Smackdown, NXT, and AEW Dynamite have been enjoyable shows, Raw has been dropping mightily in the ratings. The problem with Raw is and always has been that it is a three hour program. While every other wrestling show is two hours, Raw has stayed comitted to its three hour format. And in this crowd-less era we are now in, Raw seems like an even LONGER show. There are not enough big stars on the show to fill that time.
Building new stars has not been a priority of WWE the last few years. Due to that, they are now paying for it with low ratings. They are trying to change that by pushing new stars in championship roles. The WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre, will be featured on this edition of Raw to build towards his new program with Lashley. Also on this episode, a new number one contender will be crowned for the Raw’s Women Championship currently held by new champion, Asuka.
MVP Lounge with Guest Drew McIntyre
The WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre, has been doing a great job as the top star of Raw. With arguably the two top Raw stars, Brock Lesnar and Becky Lynch, off on the sidelines, McIntyre has picked up the ball and run with it. While he doesn’t have a crowd to gauge his popularity at the moment, online perception on the champ has been positive. After dealing with the first couple of challengers for his title, The Big Show and Seth Rollins, he will now have to face off against the powerhouse, Lashley.
Lashley has been on a role lately and that is somewhat in part due to his new manager, MVP. MVP has always been a great talker in his wrestling career and pairing him with Lashley is a great idea. Lashley’s skills come in the ring, not on the mic and having a mouthpiece like MVP can hopefully rejuvenate his career. MVP will be hosting Drew McIntyre on his talk show, The MVP Lounge, on Raw this week to further the new rivalry. With Lashley looking to make a statement, expect the champion to be on high alert as these things always end in an altercation.
Charlotte vs. Nia Jax vs. Natalya – #1 Contender’s Match for Raw Women’s Championship
The new Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka, will find out her first challenger for the title this week on Raw. NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte, Nia Jax, and Natayla will do battle to see who will face Asuka at Backlash. This could be a very good match if all three women bring their “A” game.
With 3 women being in the match, you would think it would be hard to predict a winner but their is only one challenger that makes sense at the moment for Asuka. She has been feuding with Nia Jax so the obvious next step would be a match. Charlotte is occupied with her feuds with NXT superstars, Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai, and Natalya hasn’t been a credible title challenger in months. Nia Jax just returned after Wrestlemania and the money match is Jax versus Asuka.
