WWE Raw 8/31 Show Preview
It’s the Raw after Payback and shockingly, with only one week of build, Payback was a good show. Many people assumed, myself included, that having another pay-perv-view one week after Summerslam was a terrible idea. But WWE does do its best work with their backs against the wall and they produced a good show that was only two and a half hours.
While the biggest headline coming out of Payback came from the Smackdown brand, Raw had some pretty important developments. In his first pay-per-view match since being moved over to Raw, Keith Lee defeated Randy Orton CLEAN in the middle of the ring. Another person getting their first victory on the Raw brand was Dominik Mysterio. He teamed with his father, Rey, to beat Seth Rollins and Murphy. We also have new champions on Raw as Bobby Lashley defeated Apollo Crews to become the new United States Champion and Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax finally dethroned Women’s Tag Team Champions, Bayley & Sasha Banks.
Not much has been advertised for this week’s Raw except for a match between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins. Raw Underground will probably have a couple of segments on the show since WWE seems keen on sticking with idea even with the move to the ThunderDome. Also, Retribution was a no show for the second pay-per-view in a row so it looks like they will continue to make their statement on just the Raw and Smackdown shows. After last week’s attack on Rey & Dominik Mysterio, who will they target this week?
Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins
The feud between Seth Rollins and the Mysterios has been going on for months now and it looks like Monday’s match between Rollins and Rey Mysterio might be the finale. As this point, after numerous singles and tag matches, there is not really much else to do with this feud. Rollins won the last one on one between these two at Extreme Rules in the controversial “Eye For An Eye” match.
A very common theory for this feud in the internet wrestling community is that Rey’s son, Dominik, will turn on his father and align with Rollins. The feud has been all about family and that would set up an incredible of what happens when family turns on you. That is probably the only way to extend this feud but it needs to happen very soon before fans lose interest. So this Raw would be the perfect time to pull that trigger. Expect a lengthy match between two of the best to ever do it and some type of surprise finish.
Payback Fallout!
Raw will primarily deal with all the fallout from Payback. With two new champions on the brand and Keith Lee cementing himself as a BIG player, where will WWE go next with the red brand? The next WWE pay-per-view is not for another 4 weeks so hopefully we get some new stories to take us into the fall. It looks like Drew Mcintyre and Randy Orton will continue their feud in some way but that seems to be it. Aleister Black and Kevin Owens look to be entering program with each other which should be great.
I’m sick of the Apollo versus the Hurt Business feud so I hope someone new steps up to take them on. Also, which new tag teams will form to take on the new Women’s Tag Team Champions? And who does Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka, face next after facing the 2 biggest women stars in WWE for the last 3 months? So many questions need to be answered and I think we should get some idea of where ALL these superstars go next on Raw Monday night.
