When Gibert Burns had to pull out of his UFC 251 main event fight against Kamaru Usman due to contracting the coronavirus, it gave UFC and its fans the chance for the fight they REALLY wanted. Ever since Usman and Jorge Masvidal got into an altercation during Super Bowl weekend, people have wanted to see that fight between two of the best fighters on the planet. The reason Usman/Masvidal wasn’t the original main event for UFC 251 was because Masvidal wanted to be paid what he thinks he is worth.
Jorge Masvidal has become the number two draw in MMA, right behind Conor McGregor. His cocky attitude and the way he backs it up has become a major hit in the UFC. He recorded the fastest knockout in UFC history last year against Ben Askren. That fight lasted 5 SECONDS. So with UFC 251 needing a new main event with less than a week’s notice, Masvidal stepped up and for that, he got paid. And UFC got what might be it’s biggest main event of the year.
Kamaru Usman is no slouch. There’s a reason he is the UFC Welterweight Champion. He has not lost a fight since 2013 and it is the only defeat of his career. The thing with his fights is that they normally go the distance. But Masvidal is coming into this fight ready to end it early. The animosity between these two means that they will come out swinging and that’s the reason I don’t think it goes the full 5 rounds. Usually UFC fights that are made last minute end with upsets so I’m going with Masvidal knocking out Usman in the 2nd round.
