This Week In Wrestling

It was a newsworthy week in the world of professional wrestling. WWE Raw and Smackdown, as well as AEW Dynamite, had some big developments leading up to their respective May pay per views. Raw and Smackdown worked to finalize the participants of the Money In The Bank(MITB) matches. Dynamite hosted the semi-finals of the TNT Championship tournament.

Outside of the ring, news came out that both wrestling companies will be filming live shows in the state of Florida now that they have been deemed “essential” businesses. That has not been going over well with many people as wrestling does not seem to be “essential” in the current times. But wrestling fans will rejoice as they now know professional wrestling will be continue to produce weekly content.

WWE Raw – Monday April 27, 2020

The contract signing for the WWE Title on Raw this week ended with a predictable brawl. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and challenger Seth Rollins made their points very clear this past Monday night when they sat down to sign the contract for their championship at the MITB pay per view. McIntyre shockingly initiated the wrestling brawl after hearing enough of the preaching Rollins. Rollins’ sidekick, Murphy, came to the aid of Rollins and got a claymore kick for his troubles. Now Murphy will be wrestling the champ on the upcoming edition of Raw. Rollins will surely be watching as his disciple takes on his MITB opponent just six days away from the big match.

All Elite Wrestling Dynamite – Wednesday April 29, 2020

Ever since All Elite Wrestling Dynamite premiered last October, fans have been wondering when another singles title would be brought into the company. They have so much talent and having only one men’s singles title didn’t seem like a long term plan. Then in March, the TNT Championship tournament was announced. Around the same time, AEW superstar Cody and AEW newcomer Lance Archer began to feud.

Both men were put in the tournament on opposite sides of the bracket. Ever since viewing those brackets, we have predicted the tourney would lead to Cody versus Archer in the finals. It just made too much sense. After the semi-finals this week, the finals are now set and it WILL be Cody wrestling Lance Archer for TNT Championship at the Double or Nothing pay per view. Cody narrowly defeated Darby Allin while Archer destroyed Cody’s brother, Dustin Rhodes to advance to the finals. The next few weeks of Dynamite should be interesting as their very personal feud continues to boil on the way to Double or Nothing.

WWE Smackdown – Friday, May 1, 2020

WWE Smackdown finalized the men and women who will be wrestling in the MITB matches at the May pay per view. Otis defeated Dolph Ziggler and Carmella beat Mandy Rose with a little help from Sonya Deville. The win for Otis was probably the biggest of his career which means the upcoming MITB match will be the biggest match to date. Carmella advances to another MITB match where she is looking to win it again after winning the inaugural women’s MITB match back in 2017.
