St. Louis BattleHawks Vs DC Defenders Game Day Preview

St. Louis BattleHawks Vs DC Defenders

Prior to the start of the inaugural XFL season, the DC Defenders had the best odds to win the championship. After starting the season off with a strong 2-0 record, the Defenders have quickly fallen by earning back-to-back losses while the St. Louis BattleHawks have climbed the ranks as the best team in the XFL East. In week five, we now have a matchup of the BattleHawks proving they are the best in the East while the Defenders try to end their newfound losing streak.

St. Louis BattleHawks

The St. Louis BattleHawks have looked extremely strong this season, with only one loss to the undefeated Houston Roughnecks. Since then, they have won two in a row after defeating both the Seattle Dragons and the New York Guardians by a combined score of 52-25. A win this weekend over the DC Defenders would further solidify their dominance over the XFL East.

Statistically speaking, the BattleHawks are arguably the most well-rounded team in the XFL, as they’ve been effective on both sides of the ball. They rank second in total offense (357.2 ypg) and scoring offense (22.8 ppg). Their defense leads the XFL in scoring defense (15.5 ppg) and ranks second in both total defense (266.2 ypg) and rushing defense (93.2 ypg). Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu (1,062 total yards, 6 total touchdowns) and linebacker Terence Garvin (20 tackles, sack) lead this team.

DC Defenders

The DC Defenders come into this game on a two-game losing streak. They’ve been outscored 64-9 during this difficult two-week stretch by two of the worst teams in the XFL. Both the Los Angeles Wildcats and the Tampa Bay Vipers managed to pick up their first and only wins of the season against them. However, both loses were suffered playing away, while the Defenders remain undefeated at home. Their undefeated home field advantage will surely be put to the test against by a team thats only loss as come at the hands of the undefeated Houston Roughnecks by only 4 points in Houston.

Although a win this weekend may not result in taking back the lead for the XFL East, the Defenders can at least share first place with the BattleHawks. In order to get back on track, QB Cardale Jones will have to find his groove again. He’s thrown for a total of 175 yards with five interceptions during this two-game slide. They also need their defense to step up again, which hasn’t recorded a sack or takeaway since their last victory in Week 2 over the Guardians.
