These two teams last faced each other December 28th, 2020. The season was new and there was still uncertainty about how things would play out. The Blazers won that game 115-107. Tonight they match up again and things are less new, uncertainty about this season will play out remain and both teams are in a funk.
The Lakers limp home after being dominated by the Utah Jazz , their fourth loss in a row. The Blazers have lost their last three. Both teams need a win, but basketball rules allow for only one winner. I checked to make sure that is right and I can confirm, one winner only.

The Trail Blazers are without two starters CJ McCollum (left mid-foot fracture) and Jusuf Nurkic (right wrist fracture). They continue to employ Damian Lillard however. Lillard comes into this game averaging 29.6 ppg along with 8 apg. Those numbers have had Lillard in the MVP discussion this season, deservedly so. In addition to Dame a resurgent Carmelo Anthony has done what he can to make up for the loss of Portlands two stars.
Their 18-13 record has them 5th in the tough Western Conference, only three games back of the Los Angeles Lakers. Sure, it’s too early to start thinking about playoff seeding, but on the heels of three losses you know Portland wants this game.

The Lakers have hit a rough patch. Every team in the Association has them. In the bigger picture, they mean nothing. The Lakers of last season also lost four games in a row. I don’t have to tell you how that season ended for them. There is come cause for concern however. While LeBron James continue to be amazing in his 18th NBA season, the rest of the team is struggling to find their place without Anthony Davis.
Worse yet for the Lakers, their energy hasn’t been there at times. Fans can accept a loss, even historically tough LA fans, but what they don’t like to see is a lack of effort. Against the Trailblazers tonight expect the Lakers to come out with an extra jolt of energy. Will that be enough against Dame and the Blazers?
