PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview – 3 Players To Watch
Nate Lashley – Nate Lashley was victorious at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year. The win was his 1st PGA Tour victory. One that secured his Tour card for two years. As a result of the WIN, he received an invitation and will be playing in the re-scheduled Masters this November. Nate is looking forward to defending his Rocket Mortgage Classic title, even if it’s without fans. So, what’s he been up to in quarantine? Turns out, watching bad TV like the rest of us.
“Along with everyone else in the United States, we watched Tiger King,” Lashley said. “There were a whole lot of people with personalities, it made for a great TV show. Who knows what’s going on there?”
In 2019, Nate Lashley was the KING of the Detroit Golf Club and led the tournament wire-to-wire. He finished the classic with a six-stroke victory. It was one of the better PGA stories of 2019 considering he was the last player allowed to enter this event. .
Patrick Reed – After a horrible opening round with the putter, Patrick Reed kept up with his consistent ball striking. It took a while but finally the golf ball started falling into the hole on Sunday. Reed closed the Travelers with a 64 and worked his way into a tie for 24th. Not a great performance, but he was left for dead Thursday evening, so it’s encouraging to see him grind back. Fifth in this event last year, Reed enters the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic in a much better place with his game overall.
Brendon Todd – Todd took a two-shot lead into Sunday’s final round and could have joined Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Bryson DeChambeau, Jason Day, Jim Furyk and Hideki Matsuyama as players who have won at least three tournaments in one year since 2010.
But he didn’t.
After going Bogey free for 61 holes, he tripped the par 4 12th. Lets see how the 34-year-old journeyman responds as he is back in action this week.
