NXT Great American Bash: Night One Preview
The Wednesday Night Wrestling war will be in full effect the next two weeks as AEW and NXT are pulling out all the stops. AEW is holding a two night pay-per-view quality event over two weeks on TNT called Fyter Fest. To combat their competition, NXT will be doing the same with an event called the Great American Bash. The “Great American Bash” name was a staple in the old WCW days and like they did with In Your House earlier this month, NXT is looking to the past to further the brand’s growth.
The women of WWE/NXT will be the headlining acts of Night One of the Great American Bash. NXT Women’s Champion, Io Shirai, will face former NXT Women’s Champion and current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Sasha Banks, in a one on one non-title match. 4 of NXT’s best female competitors will go to war in a Fatal Four Way Elimination match, with the winner becoming the number one contender for Shirai’s title. Rhea Ripley will face Aliyah and Robert Stone in a handicap match. If Ripley loses, she must join the Stone Brand. Roderick Strong and Dexter Lumis will continue their feud in a Strap Match. Lastly, Oney Lorcan will see if he can handle the brutality of Timothy Thatcher in a one on one match.
Io Shirai vs. Sasha Banks
The second Io Shirai versus Sasha Banks was announced, social media exploded. The match was trending on Twitter almost immediately and it’s for good reason. These two women are two of the best wrestlers in the WWE. And that’s not just among the women. Fans everywhere know the magic these two can produce against one another when given the chance. With this match happening on an NXT show and not Raw or Smackdown, these two women will be given the chance to tear the house down.
Every wrestling fan knows that the quality of matches are better when held on NXT. The superstars are given the freedom and time to tell their story with little restrictions while on Raw or Smackdown, matches are normally overproduced. So when Shirai and Banks mix it up on Night One of the Great American Bash, expect to see a Match Of The Year contender. Both women are coming into this match with huge momentum so figuring out a winner is near impossible. But since this match is happening on HER show and she’s the Women’s Champion, I’m going with Io Shirai in a match that will have everyone talking long after it is over.
Tegan Nox vs. Candice LeRae vs. Mia Yim vs. Dakota Kai – Fatal Four Way Elimination Match To Become Number One Contender For NXT Women’s Championship
The Women’s division of NXT might be the best division in all of professional wrestling. The division has always been a cornerstone for the brand and even when one of it’s big stars gets moved to Raw or Smackdown, another female picks up the ball and runs with it. It is just a division that is so deep with talent. That is why NXT couldn’t just have a one on one match to decide the next contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. Instead, there will be a Fatal Four Way Elimination match to crown a new number one contender.
Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, and Dakota Kai are deserve to be number one contender. Heck, each of them deserve a run with the NXT Women’s Championship. All of them are doing the best work of their careers. That was shown at the In Your House event when all 4 women were in the opening 6 woman tag match and that match nearly stole the show. They will give us another great match and any of the 4 would be a great pick to win. But with Dakota Kai usually bringing her added muscle, Raquel Gonzalez, to ringside with her, she has the advantage so she is my pick to win.
