New York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays Series Preview
Before the shortened MLB season began, the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays were projected to battle it out for first place in the AL East. But in the first two weeks of the season, New York has been the best team in baseball while Tampa Bay has under-performed. While the Yankees have dominated teams in their own division, going 5-0 so far, the Rays have done the opposite with their record against the AL East being 3-5.
Pitching was supposed to be a big asset for the Rays but in 8 out of their first 12 games, their pitching has given up 5 or more runs. Tampa’s lineup doesn’t have the fire power as the Yanks’ does so their pitching will have to turn around if they want to compete with the top teams in the American League. Ray’s ace, Blake Snell, hopes to have a better outing then he did in his last game. He only lasted 3 innings against a weak Baltimore Orioles team.
For the Yankees, they look to continue their incredible start to the season. Although they split their 4 game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, New York is still 9-3 on the season. They have shown why they have the most devastating lineup, homering in each of their first 12 games. The Yanks have been led by young superstar, Aaron Judge, who is batting .310 with 7 homeruns and 17 RBIs. Judge had the day off yesterday against the Phillies so he will be fresh and ready to continue his torrid start.
