New York Mets vs. New York Yankees Series Preview
Every New York baseball fan looks forward to the Subway Series every year. The road to this year’s Subway Series has taken a while due to the delay of the MLB season and last week’s single positive COVID-19 test in the Mets organization. But now it is finally here and we get 5 games in 3 days.
Some of the luster of this series is lost because the Yankees are missing their 4 best positional players due to injury. Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, DJ Lemahieu, and Giancarlo Stanton are all out for the Yanks. Lemahieu might return before the weekend is over. Both teams are also dealing with depleted pitching staffs so there should be a ton of runs this weekend.
With the teams having to play 5 games this weekend, a lot of players will get some playing time. But the Mets need these games more than the Yankees right now so expect a lot of their regulars to play AT LEAST 4 of the 5 games. I see Dom Smith and Pete Alonso taking advantage of the Yankees’ pitching woes and having big weekends. The same for Luke Voit and Gary Sanchez for the Yankees. The small dimensions of Yankee Stadium will make this series somewhat of a Homerun Derby so each game should be exciting.
