Brooklyn Nets Vs Boston Celtics Game Day Preview
It’s the 3rd meeting of the year between the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics. The Nets visit the TD Garden for the 2nd time this year, losing in their last visit by 11 points. Although coming off a loss to the Houston Rockets, the Celtics have been one of the hottest teams in basketball, winning 7 of their last 10 games. The Nets, however, have lost their last 4 games.

The Brooklyn Nets enter this game holding the 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. With Kevin Durant and now Kyrie Irving out for the season, the Nets are probably content with where they are sitting right now. They have, however had some pretty upsetting losses lately. In their past 4 games, they have lost all 4 but in 3 of the games, they lost by 4 or less points. Brooklyn is having trouble finishing games strong without their two best scorers and superstars.
Spencer Dinwiddie has stepped up averaging 20.9 points a game with 6.8 assists while running the Nets offense. He’s also done well against the Celtics this year, averaging 24 points and 11 assists against Boston. The Nets have been one the best rebounding teams in the NBA this season in no small part due to Jarrett Allen and DeAndre Jordan. They rank 2nd at 48.3 rebounds a game.
Coming into this season, people knew the Celtics would be good but they just didn’t know how good. The Celtics lost All Stars Kyrie Irving and Al Horford in free agency but gained All Star Kemba Walker. The acquisition of Walker, along with Jayson Tatum’s all star turn, have had the Celtics playing well beyond most basketball enthusiasts expectations. They come into this game 3rd in the Eastern Conference standings. While Kemba has been out due to injury since the All Star break, Jayson Tatum has gone from all star to superstar in the NBA, averaging over 30 points a game since. And with Kemba back in the lineup against the Nets, the Celtics should be able to keep their momentum going.
The Celtics are 8th in the league in points averaging 113.4 a game. In their 4 out of their last 6 games, the Celtics have gone OVER their average in points. Boston averages over 12 3 pointers a game but lately they have been shooting the 3 ball more often. One thing the Celtics don’t do often is pass the ball. The are near the bottom of the league in assists ranking at 24. Although Walker will be on a minutes restriction in his first game back, I could see him scoring more than his average of 21.8 point since the Celtics have a couple of players dealing with illnesses combined with facing the fast paced Nets.
