The Boston Celtics have been on fire at exactly the right time. They have won 10 of their last 12 games and are only two and a half games behind the leaders of the Atlantic Division, Toronto Raptors. They have been performing well in the west coast as they are coming off a victory over the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday after a close loss to the Lakers on Sunday. Although the Jazz won the last two matchups between the two, the Celtics have gone 6-4 against the Jazz in their last 10 games. It will also help that the Jazz appear to be in a bit of a slump as they’ve lost their last three games.
One of the key factors in the current success of the Celtics can be attributed to Jayson Tatum. In their loss against the Lakers, Tatum scored 41 points and followed up that performance with 36 against the Trail Blazers. He will surely need to perform at this level for the Celtics to defeat the Jazz as the Utah defense has been holding opponents to 105 points per game. Nevertheless, Bostons defense is also stout as they have demonstrated by holding opponents to 106 points per game on the road.
Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz have been performing up and down recently. After winning four games in a row, they continued to lose their last three games since the all-star break by an average score of 121 to 108. On Monday night, the Jazz got hammered by the Phoenix Suns at home by the score of 131-111. Due to this recent struggle, Utah has been unable to gain any ground on the Denver Nuggets, who lead the Northwest Division by three games.
In order to end this losing streak, the Jazz defense will need to find a way to stop Jayson Tatum who has appeared almost unstoppable as of late. Although the Utah defense traditionally performs well at home, they got scorched by the Suns on Monday when Phoenix shot 56 percent from the floor and made 12 of 20 three-pointers. Utah’s defensive performance will be integral for a win against the Celtics but their offense will need to find a rhythm they have seemed to have lost recently. They will likely rely on Donovan Mitchell, who scored 38 points against the Suns and 31 points against Houston.
