Minnesota Wild Vs St. Louis Blues Game Day Preview

Ryan O’Reilly – (St. Louis Blues)

In the last week of the regular season both of these West division foes have clinched a playoff spot. The Wild have a lot more to play for than the Blues. The Wild are three points back of finishing in 2nd place to get home ice advantage in round 1 of the playoffs over the Avalanche. While the Wild are locked in as the 4th seed in the West division with 59 points with two games to go. The Blues are 16 points back of third place. The Wild beat out Arizona for the last and final playoff spot by at least five points.

These two teams have two different kind of seasons. The Wild were one of the surprise teams of the year. Going from struggling last year to this year being one of the best teams in the NHL fighting for division title till the year-end. While the Blues were on the edge of tearing it down or staying with it and give it one more shot. The next season is upon us, lets see what the playoffs has for us

Minnesota Wild

The surprise team in the NHL can make a run in this years Stanley Cup playoffs. If it wasn’t for covid last year they wouldn’t of made playoffs. They were starting to tear it down by trading Jason Zucker to Pittsburgh and talking to New York Islanders about taking on the big contract of Zach Parise. With covid they got into the expanded qualifying round.

Minnesota is led by rookie star Kirill Kaprizov, who is most likely going to win the Calder trophy (rookie of the year). He leads the team in goals with 27 and points with 51, while second on the team in assists with 24 behind only Jordan Greenway.

Besides Kaprizov, Minnesota doesn’t have any other star players. They are a surprise team based off how good their role players are playing this year. With five guys having 30 or more points on the season.

The Wild are being led by their offense. Averaging 3.28 goals per game which is 8th in the NHL. To win games in the postseason their power play has to step up, only at 18.1% that is good for 23rd in the NHL. Teams that win the cup can score, play defense, score on power play and don’t give up a lot of on the penalty kill.

Ryan Hartman on finishing the season strong, “We are trying to take care of business.”

St. Louis Blues
NHL Fantasy Hockey

Blues trying to finish the season strong with two games to go. The GM gave them some confidence after not making a trade at the deadline showing them they he believes in them. On Monday night the Blues won over the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in OT to gain two more points.

St. Louis are 2-1-3 in their last six games, that is not the way you want to be going into the playoffs. This team should be better than what they are. Down years from two key players Mike Hoffman and Jordan Binnington. Hoffman has 17 goals with 16 assists for only 33 points, while Binnington is 17-4-8 with a 2.64 goals aganist average with .911 save percentage.

For the Blues to go places their key players need to step up. Especially most likely playing the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Ryan O’Reilly and David Perron are leading the blues both 52 points. O’Reilly has 52 points with 24 goals and 28 assists, while Perron has 52 points by 16 goals and 36 assists. Two different style of play, but both leading the show for the Blues.

Coach Craig Berube on Blues game Vs Kings, “No. There was not a lot of emotion in the game. It is what it is. It’s kind of a meaningless game, no emotion. I thought we had a good first period though. We moved the puck really well.”
