Los Angeles Lakers vs. Houston Rockets Game Day Preview

NBA Fantasy Basketball

While still a must-see game, this game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets does not hold much significance. The Lakers have already clinched the top seed in the Western Conference for the playoffs and the Rockets will land anywhere between the 4th and 6th seed. There’s no home court advantage since all teams are playing in Disney so seeding does not mean as much this year. This should still be a fun game with all the star power involved. LA and Houston have split the season series 1-1.

Lakers

Just like the Bucks and Clippers, the two other favorites to win the championship this season, the Lakers have a little trouble adjusting to the playing at the bubble in Orlando. They are 1-2 since arriving but have clinched the top seed in the conference. At this point, it would be smart for the Lakers to use these last few games to rest up their stars, especially Lebron James and Anthony Davis. The Western Conference is so loaded that the path to NBA Finals will not be easy and having a well rested Lebron and AD would be smart.

Some would say that all NBA players have been resting the last 4 months while play was suspended, which would technically be true. But why risk a potential injury to one of your stars when you already accomplished your regular season goal? So this game against the Rockets is hard to predict. If the Lakers take it easy, Lebron and AD won’t average their season stats and will look just like did in their loss to the Thunder. This game is also on the back end of a back to back so that gives more of a reason for Lebron and AD to not get their normal playing time.

Rockets

James Harden is averaging 34.3 points a game this season but has had little success against the Lakers. In two games against LA this year, Harden is only averaging 24 points per game while also having a low field goal percentage. On the other hand though, Russell Westbrook has been straight up dominant against the Lakers this year.

Westbrook has averaged 38 points and 8.5 rebounds in 2 games versus LA. Knowing his winning mentality, Westbrook will again try to put the Rockets on his back in an attempt to beat LA. And after an abysmal performance against Portland Tuesday, Russ has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. So as you can see, expect a big game from Westbrook on Thursday.
