Chiefs

After a horrendous start against the Houston Texans, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves down 21-0 after the first quarter. A 28-point second quarter put the Chiefs ahead as Patrick Mahomes’ 321 yards and 5 TDs led the Chiefs to their second straight AFC Championship game. Travis Kelce torched the Texans defense for 10 REC, 134 yards, and 3 TDs, while Damien Williams added 2 rushing TDs of his own.

Led by the 2018 NFL MVP, the Chiefs once again had an explosive offense averaging 28.2 points per game and 281.1 passing yards per game, both 5th in the NFL. This year, as opposed to last year, the Chiefs also field an above-average defense. The Chiefs rank 8th in yards allowed per game and 7th in points allowed per game.

Titans

The Tennessee Titans continued to ride workhorse Derrick Henry to the tune of 195 yards on 30 attempts. Timely clutch throws from Ryan Tannehill put the Titans up early and while Lamar Jackson accounted for 508 total yards, the Titans forced three turnovers and were able to keep the Ravens out of the end zone until the 4th quarter. With Derrick Henry leading the way, the Titans averaged 138.9 rushing yards per game, 3rd best in the NFL.

The Titans defense only allows a 36% conversion rate on 4th down, but with 125 defensive penalties on the season, the Titans gift opposing teams’ free yards far too often. Through two postseason games, the Titans are averaging only 77 passing yards per game. If the Titans want to keep up with Mahomes, Ryan Tannehill is going to have to throw the ball more often and with greater success than he has in the postseason. Corey Davis will have to have a big impact on this game after only catching one pass for three yards against the Ravens.

Chiefs & Titans Facts

  1. Chiefs rank 11th in sacks.

2. Titans rank 30th in sacks allowed.

3. Chiefs are 48% on 3rd down conversion, 1st in NFL.

4. Titans rank 2nd in rushing TDs.
