Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes UFC 247 Fight Preview

UFC 247

Jon Jones: 25-1-0

Dominick Reyes: 12-0-0

Jon Jones is perhaps the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time. He has won 17 straight fights and even with all of his problems outside of the octagon, he continues to dominate inside it. Dominick Reyes is undefeated in the UFC and has stopped 4 of his last 6 opponents. Jones comes into this match like he did in many of his others, as the heavy favorite.

There is no good game plan to prepare for Jon Jones. He’s so good at everything he does in the octagon, that the only way to beat him is by sure luck. For Reyes to beat Jones, he would probably have to catch him with his powerful left hand. But like I said for that to happen, he would need luck since Jones rarely gets hit clean. Most people are counting Reyes out which could be a mistake.  History has shown it is a very bad idea to bet against the champ.

Fact: If either man is stopped, it would be the first time in either fighter’s career that outcome occurred in one of their fights.

Women’s Flyweight Title

Valentina Shevchenko: 18-3-0

Katlyn Chookagian: 13-2-0

Ever since moving down from the bantamweight division, Valentina Shevchenko has been dominant. Meanwhile, all of Katlyn Chookagian UFC fights have gone to decision. There have been a lot of words exchanged between these two women in the weeks leading up to this fight which should add to the desire of each woman to stop the other. “My goal is to destroy everything she has” said Shevchenko and it’s that mindset that has her as the heavy favorite going into this bout.

Fact: Shevchenko is the biggest betting favorite on the main card for UFC 247 at -950.

Heavyweight Match

Juan Adams: 5-2-0

Justin Tafa: 3-1-0

The fight between Juan Adams and Justin Tafa should be very interesting. Both men are trying to find their place in the Heavyweight division. This fight doesn’t have much say in the divisional rankings as both men are still trying to prove themselves. Both men lost their last fights by stoppage, so both are looking for a much needed win to show they are relevant in this division. Adams comes in as the favorite but mainly because he is the more experienced fighter.

Fact: 10 out of the 11 fights these fighters have had have ended in KO/TKO.

Featherweight Match

Mirsad Bektic: 13-2-0

Dan Ige: 12-2-0

This fight between the two up and coming featherweights could be the fight of the night. Bektic comes in at a very slight favorite. He lost his last fight while Ige comes in on a 4 match win streak. Bektic came into the UFC with a lot of hype and Ige has recently stated that he wants to end that hype with this fight. They are evenly matched and both scrappy, so this looks like a fight that could go the distance.

Fact: Both men are 28 years old and have each had 4 of their fights go the distance.

Heavyweight Match

Derrick Lewis: 22-7-0

Ilir Latafi: 15-7-0

Derrick Lewis comes in winning 3 of his last 5 fights while Ilir Latafi comes in losing 3 out of his last 5. Both men have incredible power but Lewis has 6 inch longer reach which gives him the advantage. It’s one of the main reasons Lewis comes in as the favorite for this bout. Latfi is a strong grappler but has not been consistent in the octagon lately as his last few fights have shown. Meanwhile, Lewis consistently knocks out his opponents.

Fact: Derrick Lewis comes in heavier, taller, and with a longer reach than Ilir Latafi.
