ESPN WSH Vs ATL Sunday Night Baseball – Hot Take
The Braves will try to salvage the split against the rival Nats, sending Kevin Gausman to the hill in his first start since June 10th. Before landing on the IL with plantar fasciitis, Gausman was struggling mightily, with 17 earned runs in his last 8.1 innings pitched. He made mechanical changes during his rehab assignment and the early results are promising, most notably in his recent outing in Triple-A, where he struck out 10 over 6 innings. Gausman faces a red-hot Nats team that has gone 33-14 since May 24th. Washington’s offense is average against righties, ranking 19th in OPS. I expect Gausman to turn in a solid start tonight.
Joe Ross has been lit up as a reliever this year. He’s making his first start of the season, filling in for injured ace Max Scherzer. He hasn’t made an appearance with the Nats since June 22nd, as he was sent down to the minors. Ross has also made a tweak to his mechanics, but he’s been unimpressive in Triple-A, posting a 4.28 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, with 8 walks and 32 strikeouts in 40 innings. The Braves have a strong offense, ranking 7th in MLB in OPS vs. righties, so they should be able to get to Ross tonight.
Playing WSH Vs ATL On StatementGames – My Top Picks
10 Point Pick = Joe Ross UNDER 5.2 innings
This is Ross’ first start in over a year, he won’t be asked to pitch too deep into the game, especially against this strong Braves’ offense.
9 Point Pick = Nationals Relievers OVER 3.0 innings
The Nats will need their bullpen to go to work tonight with Ross on the mound.
8 Point Pick = Joe Ross UNDER 5.5 Ks
Ross does not have a strong strikeout rate and since I don’t think he will pitch deep tonight, this is an easy UNDER.
WAS 4 ATL 7
Expect to see some runs tonight with two questionable starters.
