ESPN PHI Vs ATL Thursday Night Baseball – Hot Take

The Philadelphia Phillies are back in SunTrust Park for the rubber match of the 3 game Atlanta Braves set.  Just when you thought the fighting Phillies have picked up some momentum coming off a 4 game sweep of the New York Mets, they drop 2 of 3 to the Miami Marlins and now face another series loss should they fail to win tonight.  Overall, this team struggles on the road.  With a 18-24 record they will need to pick up the pace should they wish to contend for the division or Wild Card.  With last nights 9-2 loss… the Phillies sit in 2nd place in the NL East trailing the Braves by 5 1/2 games.

Last nights Phillies loss did have a bright spot for the teams star right fielder Bryce Harper.  Bryce hit a line-drive home run to left field in the sixth inning.  It was his 200th career homer and 1,000th career hit.  According to the team, it marked the first time in major league history a player reached milestones in hits and homers on the same swing.

The Atlanta Braves ended the month of June going 20-8.  Over this 28 game span the team is averaging 6.7 runs per game.  Fan sentiment is high!  Supporters of the team will even get an opportunity to see Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman and Mike Soroka take part in All-Star Game festivities next week in Cleveland.  Before breaking for the All-Star Game, the team looks to put a little more distance between themselves and the competition with today’s game against the Phillies and then three at SunTrust Vs the Miami Marlins.

Mike Soroka is back on the hill for the Atlanta Braves.  He is the youngest Braves pitcher to be named to an All-Star team.  In his first full season, Soroka has already realized much of the potential that made him the franchise’s No. 1 pitching prospect.  A command savant, Soroka is second in MLB with a 2.13 ERA and fifth in WHIP (0.980).  In his last start, Soroka out-dueled Jacob deGrom allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings of work in a Braves’ 6-2 win over the New York Mets, showing no ill effects from being hit by a pitch, and leaving the 06/23 game early in Washington.

10 PT Pick = Atlanta Braves OVER 4.5 Runs
We understand Atlanta was just shut out for the second time this season on Wednesday but as mentioned… the team averaged 6.7 runs per game in June.  Eflin has a 3.34 ERA so we are confident with this selection.

9 PT Pick = Total Runs OVER 8.5
It is the 4th of July!  We want to see some FIREWORKS!  Taking Run Total UNDERS on this day should be against the LAW!

8 PT Pick = Mike Soroka UNDER 7.5 K’s
The line is HIGH.  The kid has stuck out 7 batters only once in his past 10 games.

Good Luck building your account balance!
