Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers Series/Game Day Preview
It’s Round Two of the NBA Playoffs and this match-up is an exciting one. The Denver Nuggets will take on the Los Angeles Clippers in a best of 7 series to see who will move on to the Western Conference Finals. Los Angeles defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games to advance to this series while the Denver beat the Utah Jazz in a thrilling game 7 on Tuesday night to get here. The regular season series between these two teams was won by the Clippers, 2-1.
After being down in the series 3-1 to the Jazz, the Nuggets resiliently fought back and won 3 straight, including a crazy game 7, to win the series. Jamal Murray was the big headline for Denver as he put up stats that Nuggets’ fans had never seen before from him. Murray averaged over 34 points a game against the Jazz in the first round and delivered TWO 50 point performances in that series. Denver will need more of that in this series if they want to have a chance at upsetting the heavy favorite Clippers.
But I think the X factor for the Nuggets will Nikola Jokic. The Clippers will have Ivica Zubac and Montrezl Harell guarding him and he needs to take advantage of that. Last series, Jokic had two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, guarding him and he still put up great numbers. It will be up to “The Joker” to take advantage of his match-ups in this series to give the Nuggets a shot to stay close and win games.
Luka Doncic and the Mavs gave the Clippers a rough time in the first 4 games of the first round of the NBA Playoffs but once the Clippers figured them out, the series became a no contest. From top to bottom, Los Angeles has the most talented roster in the NBA. They are so deep with great players that I would be shocked if they don’t win the NBA Finals this year. In addition to the great roster they have, it’s now the second round of the playoffs which means we are getting more of playoff Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard turns into a whole different beast in the playoffs and it blows my mind how he is sometimes left out of the conversation of best player in the NBA. He can drop 30+ points easily in a playoff game and make that big defensive stop when his team needs it most. He might be the most complete player in the NBA and combine that with the roster he has now, it seems very unlikely any team can beat the Clippers in a 7 game series.
