This game features a matchup of the NBA’s two favorites to meet in the Finals. The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers vs the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers, 8-2 in their last 10 games, bounced back from a defeat to the Nuggets Sunday night, with a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nets, 2nd in the East and 6-4 in their last 10, are picking up steam. They recently defeated the Phoenix Suns in dramatic fashion on Tuesday.
Brooklyn Nets
This team seems to be in a constant carousel of injuries. In addition to Kyrie missing nine games this year, and KD missing a total of 7 so far, the Nets are also without the services of newly acquired SG Iman Shumpert (hamstring), Nicolas Claxton (right knee tendinopathy), Spencer Dinwiddie (ACL surgery).
Despite the injuries, Brooklyn has risen to 2nd in the East behind the spectacular play of James Harden, who spearheaded the Nets come from behind win against the Suns. Harden once again will have to carry the Nets, who will also need to get key contributions from guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Joe Harris. The Nets will have their hands full with the backcourt of James and Schroder. Jordan and company will have a tall task in keeping Harrell, Gasol and James from controlling the boards. The absence of Irving and Durant will be a great feat to overcome in this one.
Los Angeles Lakers
L.A has been dominant throughout the season but are encountering a difficult road ahead due to the absence of super star Anthony Davis. Davis suffered a minor injury during the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Nuggets. However, Lebron is having an MVP type season again, and if anyone is able to hold this team together, it’s LeBron. A main factor in this matchup for the Lakers will be the play of their bigs. Marc Gasol has to play big in this game because without Davis, the Lakers don’t have the bigs to keep DeAndre Jordan off the boards. Look for Gasol to be a bigger factor defensively and Dennis Schroder to pick up his scoring.
