Atlanta Braves Vs New York Mets Series Preview

Fantasy Baseball

The race to crown a champion for the stacked NL East begins Friday, July 24, when the Atlanta Braves travel to New York to face the Mets. The two teams are part of toughest division in baseball where 4 out of the 5 teams have playoff potential., including the defending World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals.

The Braves won the NL East by 4 games last season while the Mets finished 11 games back. Atlanta was led by a star-studded core led by rising superstar, Ronald Acuna. Acuna is perhaps the most talented young star in the game and is only getting better. He hit 41 homers while stealing 37 bases in 2019. He has to be an MVP favorite this year in the NL.

While the Mets finished far out from first place last year, they were one of the best teams in baseball after the All-Star break. Once their young core started to gel, the Mets lived up to their potential in the second half of 2019. The Mets were led by Cy Young winner, Jacob deGrom, and breakout rookie, Pete Alonso. Alonso smashed 52 homeruns in 2019, leading the all of baseball and establishing a new record for MLB rookies.

Both of these teams will have to play fantastic baseball all season if they wish to make the playoffs. Two storylines to look forward to this weekend are the play of the Braves’ Freddie Freeman and the return of the Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes. Freeman had the COVID-19 virus just a few weeks ago and was reportedly very sick so we will see if the deadly virus has any effects on his normally All-Star talents. As for Cespedes, he has not played a regular season game in 2 years due to injuries but if he is healthy, he has the potential to be the most dominant DH in the NL.
