AEW Fight For The Fallen Preview
AEW is spoiling wrestling fans for the third week in a row with another show worthy of pay-per-view. While the previous two editions of Dynamite were taken over by the Fyter Fest event, this week’s show is now Fight For The Fallen. Like Fyter Fest, Fight For The Fallen was a pay-per-view event last year. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AEW is having the big events replace weekly Dynamite show.
Fight For The Fallen is headlined with Jon Moxley defending his AEW Championship against Brian Cage. The rest of the Fight For The Fallen card is rounded out by 3 other fantastic matches. FTR will face the Lucha Bros. in a dream match between two of the best tag teams on the planet. The Elite will go to battle against Jurassic Express in a 6 man tag match. And Cody will defend the TNT Championship against Sonny Kiss. Chris Jericho will be on commentary for hour two of the show.
Jon Moxley vs. Brian Cage For The AEW Championship
The AEW Championship match between Jon Moxley and Brian Cage was supposed to occur last week on Night Two of Fyter Fest. The match had to be pushed back one week due to Moxley’s wife, WWE’s Renee Young, contracting the coronavirus over two weeks ago. Moxley had to self quarantine so the match was moved for safety reasons. But now with everyone healthy, the champion Moxley faces his toughest test yet in AEW against the powerful Cage. Brian Cage earned the opportunity to face Moxley by winning the Casino Ladder match at Double or Nothing back in May. That was impressive as it was Cage’s first match in AEW.
This match is very intriguing as both men winning makes sense. Moxley is arguably AEW’s biggest star and him holding the title puts eyes on the company. But AEW needs to build stars, especially stars that have not been made by WWE. They also need to start giving some of their big heels credible wins which they have lacked lately. AEW has dropped the ball with Brodie Lee, Jake Hager, and Lance Archer so far. All 3 men came into the company with a lot of hype and all 3 have lost the big matches they have been in.
AEW cannot make the same mistake with Brian Cage. It’s time for AEW to build another star. With Taz as his mouthpiece and providing unbelievably good promos, Cage is the right man to dethrone Moxley. Moxley does not need the belt to stay relevant. But Cage losing will harm his character long term. So this match should only end one way in my opinion and that’s with Cage getting a decisive win and becoming the new AEW Champion.
The Lucha Bros. vs. FTR
The Lucha Bros. and FTR competed against each other last week on Night Two of Fyter Fest as part of the amazing 8 man tag match that also included the Young Bucks and The Butcher & The Blade. However, this week at Fight For The Fallen, the Lucha Bros. and FTR face off in a match fans have dreamed about for a long time. These two teams are easily two of the best tag teams on the planet today. So when they square off for the first time ever, it’s sure to be memorable.
While not being billed as a number one contender match for the AEW Tag Team Championship, it’s probably a safe bet to assume that the winner of this match will be next in line for a shot at the gold. Regardless, this match is a big deal and will be treated as such. This WILL be the match of the night as the contrasting styles of the teams will make for an entertaining show. After taking the L last week, expect FTR to go over here. Everything is pointing towards FTR becoming the new standard bearers of the AEW tag division and a win at Fight For The Fallen will be another step towards that goal.
